Kurt Zouma using his cat as a football

Agreed. But to widen and (occasionally) muddy the debate is one of the primary functions (and joys) of this board.

You see that's exactly what I think, and I think its ironic that people keep using expressions like "it's not difficult to comprehend" , whilst failing miserably to grasp the concept of nuanced debate.
No one has suggested that what Zouma has done is completely wrong, but that does not mean that it's completely unacceptable to debate the issues raised by what has happened.
Is the response disproportionate? I personally think many people on here and elsewhere have responded in an over the top way, which I feel means its reasonable to debate. Does Zouma genuinely deserve a 4 or 5 year prison sentence or to be badly injured? Is it worse (as some posters in this thread have suggested) than the rape and domestic abuse that Greenwood is accused of? Is it hypocritical to say an animals life is equally as important as a humans if you eat animals?
I'm not trying to be deliberately contrary or upset people, but I think its against everything this excellent board stands for to say people are stupid or have an agenda because they have a slightly different take on a subject.

I personally don't see the point in those comparisons, evil behaviour is evil, is there a benefit in indexing it in order of most evil? I don't see it.
Is whataboutery an excuse for appalling behaviour, not really.
Should we only stop animal violence once all racism is dealt with? Absolutely not.

Personally, I don't think he should be playing until he has had the guts to stand up in public and explain himself. He is in a profession that is hugely inspirational to many young people, those people have afforded him a lifestyle that makes him want for nothing, he's 27 years old, he should stand up in public and explain himself instead of hiding behind his club. He should apologise and explain to kids that follow him that what he did is shameful. Then we can start to look at what contribution he will make to society for his behaviour and how he can be a better person.

But that's a journey, you can't skip the journey and go straight to "He's learning how to treat animals properly". It starts with some sense of responsibility for your actions.

I don't think the guy should be hung, should be beaten, or should be sacked. He should probably be prosecuted like anyone else would. But if he wants to move on with his career, it starts by facing up to the press.

Ms Holdham said: “The cat looked up to you to care for its needs.

“On that date in February you did not provide for its needs but you caused unnecessary suffering for your own amusement.”

A West Ham spokesman said the club hopes “everyone will allow Kurt the chance to learn from his mistake and move on”.

Zouma pleaded guilty last week to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a cat, after blaming the family pet for damaging a chair.

His two Bengal male cats have since been signed over to be rehomed.

The court was told the “premeditated” attack was filmed by his younger brother, lower-league footballer Yoan Zouma, 24, in February, and sent to a woman he was due to go on a date with.
