Klopp demands spurs replay

I don't think it should be replayed either, but just moaning every week and then begrudgingly accepting it doesn't change anything. Someone needs to make a serious stand, even an over-the-top one like this, to make the authorities sit up and realise how high the stakes are for teams. I've got no love for Liverpool but this was a horrendous error and it needs to be a watershed moment for football.

But something did change, VAR has been introduced. Like it or not (I don't) it has cut down on more mistakes than it has made.

Jacob Butterfield scoring a perfectly valid goal against Sheffield Wednesday, only to discover that none of the officials noticed?

Was that back in 2014?

I won tickets at work to watch a Sheff Wed game, so I obviously waited until they played you lot, and a boro player had a shot which hit the post and rebounded back across the face of the goal and into the net. It crossed the line by a couple of feet.

Kirkland dived into the goal in an attempt to save it and he scooped it back into play. I was certain that the linesman and ref had seen it but was surprised that they didn’t blow for a goal. To be fair no boro players appealed for a goal, either. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyway, late on in the game Nuhiu scored a penalty to win 1-0.

I don't think in the history of fmttm I have ever disagreed more with a post than this.
When we failed to go up this year I wasn't really that bothered. People continually whining and whining and whining until they have got their way has killed the joy of the game for me. It'll be a sorry day when they get their way in the championship too.

I'm sorry that my post engendered such a strong feeling of disagreement. But I must ask - did you just shrug it off when Gavin Ward disallowed Marc Bola's goal? Or when the lino randomly decided to award West Ham a goal they hadn't scored? Or when Jacob Butterfield scored against Sheffield Wednesday, only to find that none of the officials had spotted it? Are you honestly telling me that in those moments, you wouldn't have wanted anyone to go back and revisit that decision, because it gives you more joy to see the game to continue without a break than it does to have the correct scoreline?

Yes, that one. But never mind that we unfairly lost, because thank goodness, Boro fans didn't have to suffer a brief pause so a quick perusal of the technology could award us the goal we scored. Heaven forbid.

I've since deleted the post you quoted so I could rework it, but it's out there now, so I guess I'll leave it. I think I've said all I can say on this thread now anyway.

The goal line technology we have nowadays would have sorted that one out, no problem.

Absolutely. But some of the people on this thread would've been furious to see it used. Let the officials' decisions stand, whatever they might be, and get on with the game and stop whinging, etc!
