Kicking the ball out

Norwich moaning about us playing on for the 2nd goal because they kicked it out for Ramsey…
1. They were playing on when they had possession but wanted it kicked out when their lad handballed it and we got possession.
2. Their centre back was waving Aarons to play on when Ramsey went down and looked ***ed off when he kicked it out.

As Carrick has just said it’s not the players job to ref the game. They play on until the referee tells them to stop.

I’m glad we have a horrible ruthless streak to us. It’s what makes teams winners.

Yep, good point actually. None of the pundits mentioned Norwich actually had possession at the time their player went down injured. Certainly didn't look they were thinking about stopping.

I don't understand protocols now. It was always head injuries that the ref stops the play and not going down after a fair tackle. So the ref was right to play on and the players also right to keep the play moving.

Wagner also not making excuses and not complaining

He was in midfield and you can't really argue that he was involved in the goal or that his absence in that incident made a difference.

Actually listening to Wagner, apparently you can argue that.

But he is being prompted by the interviewer.

It was 5-1 not a win by an odd goal, we handed them their arrses. Get on the bus and fkk off home.

When that Aarons went down when they should’ve had a penalty, threw himself to the ground quite ridiculously, and he got up stormed to the ref fuming because he didn’t get it… personally thought that was way worse than anything we done.
Then after gobbing off at the ref he hurled himself back to the floor and had a right little tantrum.

Definitely tears before bed time for that little lad.

Whilst I agree with all the comments, if we had a goal against us in similar circumstances, lots of people would be having a melt down and arguing the opposite on here.

Ref's aren't helping either as quite often they are stopping play when a player goes down when it isn't a head injury. Also players/managers and gamesmanship don't help, for example Ramsey came back on and collapsed on the floor, hoping to get the game stopped, all with the view to waste time whilst we get a sub ready, and the ref stops play.

Then you have the convention which has been created, were there is an expectation amongst the players, that when a plyer goes down you put the ball out and then they give it back to you when restarted. This creates a confusing picture all round and when something happens like a goal you can understand the controversy and complaining from whichever side has lost out.

That's not quite accurate. It's never been mandated that the referee stops play for head injuries. The law says (and has always said, ever since this provision was first brought in) that the referee stops play for serious injuries.

Now, it's true that head injuries are some of the most dangerous injuries a player can suffer, so play usually is stopped when a player has a head injury but where the injury is, has never been part of the law.

To be fair he did say protocol and not the law which actually does need looking at. To leave it the discretion of referees is causing inconsistencies. Make it head injuries only and not just any knock which the players seem to think is the norm now.

He actually done this later in the game when Mowatt took a slap to the face by Howson (I think) - head ’injury’ (cut lip?) but allowed play to carry on before letting him get treatment. But whether the ref didn’t see it, didn’t realise it was a head ‘injury’, thought he was time wasting (why would we?) etc lol remains to be seen.

The ref should not stop play for apparent head injuries. It's just a way for players to cheat.

I'd trust refs to judge what is a serious injury, and what is not. Explain to players that the game is going to carry on regardless, unless there's been a foul, and this play acting will stop.

Any player treated for a head injury should be subbed off, mandated. There will be fewer head injuries for sure.

But players are faking head injuries now. Refs should just play on and let the physio come on. That would stop the time wasting straight away.

Just watched the goal again on the MFC highlights. The complaints are frankly ridiculous and they only have themselves to blame it was a complete lack of professionalism on the part of their players. As we restart the game their players are behind the referee but waving at his back they do not hurry get back to cover for the injured player. But even then it is not as if we race through and pop the ball in the net. One of their players touches it with a half clearance and we start the attack again so if you are talking (in the modern parlance) about "phases of play" it is not even a single phase of play. And this was common with them when things went against them. After the ref missed their penalty shout (or disregarded it for the silly bunny hop) they were more focused on whinging to the ref than pressing their advantage. They rushed when it was inappropriate and didn't when they should have.

Wagner was accurate in his analysis. I would be surprised to see them make the play offs
