Kicking off at Middlesbrough Council

The shill machine is in full effect in fb & gazette. Somehow this is a Labour plot by undercover Labour councillors masquerading as independants.

Knew Labour would be to blame lol

independent mayor
Executive part of MICA

Baffelling. All of the resignees were independent.

Lies in the joint resignation letter?

Beyond libellous and a criminal offence?

The complaints were about proper procedure not being followed. If he did follow procedure 100% I doubt they would have resigned over it or cited it. If he didn't then it isn't libellous. The complaint he might have is that the inference is that he hasn't followed procedure in order to enrich himself, family and friends, but the counter to that is that we have procedures precisely to ensure that sort of corruption not only doesn't happen, but it avoids even the appearance and suspicion of it.

I'm a tad suspicious of this 'legal advice' and reporting to the police. It reminds me of SLAPP suit intimidation tactics.

Up until now I was pretty much on the fence, wondering if he was just a modern mayor with a can do attitude frustrated at plans being held up by intransigent, out of touch, never do, committee members and procedures used to hold things up.

Yep apparently no such thing as independent, they’re all ex Labour our to get poor Andy

forgetting that poor Andy is ex Labour

whoops

yet we don’t need things to be true, do we? People lapping it up and most comments in his FB are supportive

I would be surprised if the Marton Ward councillors are ex Labour.

Those signing the letter are all Independents, at least one was formerly Conservative. Mostly are quite long serving councillors. All in all it seems really odd.

MAYOR APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE MEMBER

MIDDLESBROUGH Mayor Andy Preston has today confirmed a new member of his Executive.

Cllr Barrie Cooper has joined the Mayor and Cllr Mieka Smiles.

The appointment follows the resignations of five former members of the Executive on Tuesday.

Cllr Cooper, who represents the Newport ward, will take on responsibility for the portfolios of Environment, Finance and Governance and Regeneration.

Cllr Smiles retains responsibility for Communities and Education, while Mayor Preston will oversee the areas of Adult Social Care and Public Health and Children's Safeguarding directly.

Mayor Preston said: "Thank you to Cllr Smiles for her ongoing professionalism and commitment to Middlesbrough.

"And I'd like to welcome Barrie Cooper who re-joins the team.

"I will bring other people onto the team in the coming weeks and in the meantime it's business as usual."

The Executive and the Mayor are responsible for key decisions the Council makes. By law the Executive must consist of the Mayor and at least two other members.

Details of the rearranged meeting of the Executive will be confirmed in due course.

New addition to Mayor's Executive

MIDDLESBROUGH Mayor Andy Preston is continuing to reshape his Executive team.

Cllr Eric Polano has today been appointed as the Executive member for Regeneration.

Mayor Preston said: "Eric is a dedicated councillor and his passion for Middlesbrough shines through.

"I'm looking forward to working more closely with him and know he will make a great contribution."

Cllr Polano, who represents the Acklam ward, joins Cllr Barrie Cooper and Cllr Mieka Smiles on the Mayor's Executive.

The Executive will next meet on May 24, it was confirmed on Friday.

I think the employees of MBC can work more than effectively on their own, without the interference from councillors. I've never felt the system of elected members was effective, or necessary. In fact, I think they are often a hindrance rather than a help, more so when the petty political squabbles rise to the surface.

I get there needs to be some oversight and accountability, given its public money, but the current approach isn't it.

Malicious communications act 2003 possibly?
