Keto diet thing

anybody tried this. This lockdown has got me thinking I should be more aware of what I eat while exercise is considerably less.

Isn't that the one that's high in fat? Any proper studies on it?
I'm not a dietician but I would try for more veg etc and less meat

I'm never sure about all of these diets. The Mediterranean one appears to have stood the test of time.
I think the minimum amount of fibre we should have is about 31 g per day but the average person gets about 21 so that would probably be a good start.
Fibre is definitely a secret weapon that people don't utilise

The trouble with the Mediterranean diet is that in the Mediterranean they eat their food then go out in the sunshine, whereas we eat enough pasta for an Olympic runner then park our backsides in front of the telly!

Been on Keto since New Year and lost a stone so far. It’s not too bad, it is high in fat and you still need to control calories in and out, but I never feel hungry. I also intermittent fast and only eat in a 6 hour window.

once I hit target weight, my plan is to switch over to more of a Mediterranean diet

Doing it now, 5 weeks in. Need to pair it with exercise to get maximum benefit. Using it to shift some of the weight quickly before settling back into a different routine, stone lost to date but beginning to plateau.

Did it to wean myself off stuff like bread, crisps, chocolate and other things I’d have been munching on during lockdown, got me into eating more salads and veg which I’ll carry on with.

I can't see how eating a diet heavy in fats is healthy?
Harvard review States: (it) has numerous risks

I find too many of these fad like diets promote one food group and complete alienate another. If you can sustain that long term then great, but personally I find limiting bad things easier than just cutting them out completely.

The Keto diet works by putting your body into a ketotonic state (may have that word all wrong!) where your body burns fat rather than carbohydrates. It is the one recommended to people with diabetes so I would say is not such a fad diet as some are.

Look up the review from Harvard.

Just looked at that and yes it does sound alarrming! I guess if you do do it then do not do it for long

I’ve got mates that swear by it several times a year until they fall off it and start it again.

Any diet that involves an actual diet had better be something you want to do permanently otherwise the second you stop doing it you will just revert

It’s why I’m happier just eating healthier and doing exercise because I can eat what I like within reason, and feel like I’ve earned it. The exercise is a positive change to maintain rather than trying to eat things a specific way, but go with whichever you are more likely to maintain

Fat isn’t as bad for you as people would have you believe.

Trans fats are the ones to avoid. Cut out as much sugar from your diet and that includes carbs which get turned into sugar unless you exercise a lot.

My son uses it to cut weight when he has a fight ( kick boxing) . Also a friend of mine has lost 9 stone through following a Keto diet and exercise Over 1.5 years when told he was pre diabetic . It’s not something you can jump into it takes a lot of research and preparation to do it properly.

Not strictly Keto but I've been intermittent fasting for 2 years now, plus try to avoid all sugars, especially corn syrup sugars and no breads, cakes, pies etc. I've dropped from116Kg to 86.

That's impressive but sounds really hard to maintain
