Kenneth Zohore - Non scoring strikers club

In the 'wild west' world of scouting in the Championship looks like we dodged a bullet here.
We were closely linked last summer IIRC.
On loan at Millwall all season and been injured a lot - looked at stats and it seems he has made 17 appearances (11 starts) scoring 3 goals.

Who else might we have considered buying/loaning this time last year?
- Lyle Taylor, 38 appearances and 4 goals for Forest.
- Yaya Sanogo, 9 appearances and zero goals for Huddersfield
This seems to be the kind of level we were shopping at.
I'd imagine all three of these players will be on good salaries - north of £20k per week?

Who should we look to sign this year who is within our measly budget?
Is there a Plan B instead of gambling large amounts on has-beens? (or never were's  )

BTW , just throwing a name out there....
Millwall fans seem to rate left-sided defender/midfielder Scott Malone. He's on loan to them from Derby and out of contract in the summer.
I know it sounds obvious but is it worth our recruitment team checking out other fans forums to see who is playing well?
The information is out there and it's free? Do you think we already do this kind of 'desk research'?
Surely even the most short-sighted and clueless fan would have instantly spotted that signing Ashley Fletcher was a bad idea.

All that fuss over Lyle Taylor last summer about him not playing for Charlton and he goes and has a season like that.

Glad we stayed well away from him.

Contrasting to that, the strongest link that didn't lead to a signing was Kieffer Moore.
We tried our best to sign him.

20 goals in 41 appearances this season.

James Collins - out of contract at Luton this summer, think he's scored 14 this season

Yaya Sanogo Huddesfield 7 games 0 goals
Another Duffer that we were after thank goodness our talks failed.
But this highlights the difficulty of finding even a reasonable striker nevermind the two or three that we are after.

Our talks didn't fail, he failed his medical.

Something I was very thankful for.

Sanogo saga reached fresh levels of madness.
He failed his medical for being 'unfit' rather than any specific medical complaint.

Now I might be wrong but this is the first time I've heard of such a thing?
Usually it's a specific medical complaint or an old injury.
For an elite professional sportsman to turn up unfit beggars belief!

Still didn't stop him getting a job at another Championship club where he has gone on to fail miserably

Personally I didn't get the Lyle Taylor love in, I thought he was very limited. He had Forest's eyes out.

Sanogo, didn't we get him for a few days and decide he was so unfit that we were no longer interested? Good work by Warnock to realise that

I think the Zahore links were based ont eh fact he played for him at Cardiff, not sure there was any truth to it

How have our previous targets faired from a few years ago..Martyn Waghorn and further back Daryl Murphy?
Daryl Murphy had a crap season at Newcastle, followed by 2 crap seasons at forest, followed by a crap season at Bolton. But I guess he filled his bank balance up before retirement.

Waghorn 9 goals, then 12, and this season he has 3. 7mill + 30k/week for 3 years, about 500k per goal!!

The players we have been linked with don't fill you with excitement.
Diedheiou - poor apart from against us.
Michael Smith - big lump but may suit ?
James Collins - showing his age .
Waghorn - last time we were in for him was a maybe , this time no thanks.
Who else is there realistically ? And affordable in wages ?
Div 1
Wyke - free
Pigott - free
Charles - free
Kyle Joseph - free
Joshua Kayode - buy from RUFC ? , L2
Yates - £1.5-£2m - looks the part but would cost and we don't have money.
Okenabirhie - free
Grant - free
Gomes - free , div 2
And , all our rivals are in for the same players , BRFC thread has them in for Charles and Gomes .
Big job on . 9 players to come in , some won't be starters he said.
CF is a starter , with a back up for him, Wyke , Pigott , Joseph , frees ?
LW is a starter , Ameobi ,Charles , Okenabirhie , all free ?
RW is a starter , Gomes , Reiss Nelson loan , Yates , Robert ?
No10 , Tav and Watmore can do it, I would like Powell , Windass or Grant as competition .
CM - Mowatt is the fans choice , but big competition, Jon Mellish as cover ?
CM - Bacuna or Dewsbury Hall loan
CH - Declan Gallagher as captain would be my choice on a free , Mellish as cover.
LB - cover , so Reece James , or Corey Blackett Taylor on frees .
GK - We need a no1 , Archer has earned a no2 role . Hennessy, Burge, or Nyland free ?
No money , we are shopping in Aldi not M&S now .
