Kate, Princess of Wales - not seen this year.

I don’t feel “leached” off by the Royal family. Never gave it a thought to be honest. Every country is under some sort of rule whether it’s Royal families, presidents or dictators. You could always go and live in Iran or Russia ?
You could always go and live in hahaha...we live here and we can change things for the better. Getting rid of the monarchy would be one of those things for many people.

You never give it a thought because they're irrelevant, let's be honest. They're not a necessity, privatise them and let those who want to fund them do so

That's why in my previous post I'd suggested taxing them until over time the vast majority of their wealth belongs to the state.
It would certainly be a journey to reduce or remove them, I don't see a guillotine moment to remove them

Many are still in favour of having a Royal Family, and although the point regarding them bringing in money through tourism is probably overstated and exaggerated, it is still a valid point that they do help to increase tourism, you will see for yourself that if you visit tourist shops in London most shops will have a large section full of Royal Family mugs, t-shirts, fridge magnets etc.

Our Royal Family is respected worldwide, the Queen was one of the most highly respected head of states worldwide.

One option would be to phase out the majority of titles and payouts until we have a small royal family with a modest estate. Tax them so that gradually over a period of many years the vast wealth is in the hands of the state, not the family.
Sensible post of the day alert

Hilarious seeing the anti royals crying again,
Suck it up fellas, the royals are going nowhere 😭😭
imagine being happy to treat some other family as more important and superior to your own kids......I'll never get my head around that concept. I believe in meritocracy, or at least trying to achieve something in that direction, not the exact opposite

good accidental point......presidents can be removed by the electorate, royals are much more like dictators
Equally though, it's due to the electoral system that the maniac Vladimir Putin is currently President of Russia, and another maniac may be about to become the President of the USA.

I don't regard myself as being a royalist but equally, I can understand why many feel an attachment due to it being part of our heritage. If other countries can have a royal family without the enormous wealth and privilege then it would be great to think that one day we will get to that.

Maybe it's not the royal family that are the problem but how we use them? Just thinking of places like Denmark and Norway. They are strong, socialist countries but have ceremonial monarchies and, I can attest to Denmark at least, are very well liked?
Maybe we can live in a democracy and have a royal family for reasons of pageantry and (though overstated) tourism?

no one is, but because he can't defend the value in a royal family he resorts to ad hominem attacks......it's at this point you know that he's lost the debate.

Haha, brilliant, I haven't attempted to defend the value in a royal family, because I couldn't care less, as already stated, therefore have no interest in debating the pros and cons of one either.

I wouldn't want to waste my life getting so wound up by it, unlike yourself.

I just find it amusing how you in particular, along with others can not help themselves as soon as a royal thread appears, you must jump in and state your opinion, even when not wanted, like the Charles cancer thread.

Sun is shining outside, have a nice day :)

We've had two lunatic PMs in the last few years in Johnson and Truss.

The PM is the leader of the country, the monarch is head of a sideshow.

You're wound up now, hence this post.
