there was huge public opposition to the war, huge opposition (and I say this as someone who wasn't entirely against it). But that was a point the queen could have ensured the information was correct that led to war. She did't because it would have led to constitutional crisis.It wasn't just about the alleged WMD though was it.
The Iraq invasion was framed as being part of the 'War on Terror' after 9/11. We were told that the goal was to end Saddam Hussein's support for terrorism and free the Iraqi people.
Of course it was a mistake in hindsight but as I've said, many supported the decision at the time, and both of the major parties were also in favour.
It was mentioned earlier about how the monarch could stop us going into an unjust and unpopular war, and this is prime evidence that actually they won't do that. They will however back british military being put in the line of the enemy to protect royal territory and fishing an oil rights such as the falklands
