Wow what a city. Beautiful, small, quaint, stylish, contemporary, fashionable, and such a lovely calm vibe about the place. Yes it was busy but it don’t feel it. It gets lots of day trippers in from Vienna on sightseeing tours, but by late evening they’ve all gone back and it’s a lovely evening and night out. A really stylish pavement cafe culture with nice bars and restaurants, traditional and modern, and some great craft beer places. Not cheap but not expensive. Beer around 3eu a pint and meals around 11-15eu a main course. Airport is only 10 minutes away from the city and an Uber cost 11eu. We got an Airbnb apartment right in central old town and cost £180 for 3 nights. It was lovely. Ryanair flights from LBA gets you there for 11:30am and returns at 13:25 which meant I was back in the house for 4:30pm. Perfect. Flights cost £198 priority boarding with Ryanair. No checked in bags.
We got a Flixbus to Vienna for the day which cost £11 return for each of us. Takes an hour and gets you into the central station. (I bought these online before our trip.) You then have to get a U1metro 3 stops to the centre (Stevensplatz). Cost £4 return for the 2 of us. I’d define recommend a city break to Bratislava.

Thanks for posting that - sounds like a trip worth making.

Great info mate, we go in a few weeks.

One mate already lives there and another has just resigned from our place out here to move there. If I was coming back to Europe that’s where I’d head I reckon.

Tip No1 for anyone going to Bratislava:
Don’t get the taxis outside the airport. They will charge 30eu+.
Use Uber or Hopin apps and it will only cost 11eu.

Great place but keep your wits about you. One of our group got mugged going home drunk on his own. Other times we had to fend off supposedly welcoming women try to pick your pocket.
Loved the place though.

Sat in our apartment with a glass of grogg. Came back from Vienna this evening, what a great City, loads of photos of the architecture of which there is plenty. If you plan to go from Bratislava to Vienna on the bus take your passport, the Austrian borders guards do cheqs, see what I did there.

I have Slovak relatives - Bratislava is expensive for Slovakia. It used to be 50p for half a litre of local beer before they joined the Euro and £5 for a decent meal in Eastern Slovakia. Since joining the Euro and the EU the country has become much more expensive, but they receive lots of EU grants/funds which has helped increase prosperity and westernise the country. Businesses have located to Slovakia from Western Europe, because it was cheaper with a youngish well educated workforce.

Interestingly the term “Brat”means brother in many Russian countries, so it’s ok to call any local looking to do nasty things to you there a “Ferkin brat”. lol 😂

Yeah we loved Bratislava when we went earlier in the year. We were told it was a party town but really wasn't, not compared to many other Capitals. The old town is very small but very beautiful

We did it the other way around and went to Vienna for the day from Brat. An hour on a cheap train

(our flights were really cheap too from LBA, Airbnb very reasonable, similar to the OP)
