Juninho Coming Home

Juninho is coming back to the Riverside to play in the big charity game next year. The brainchild of Juno's former team mate Mikkel Beck and now being organised with Red Army TV's Dave Roberts the battle of the Boro greats will be a real tonic after the trials of COVID 19. A light at the end of the tunnel, perhaps and a massive fundraiser for MFC Foundation. Big Match

Good write up Rob & so true, incredible times

"Juninho was Brazil Player of the Year when he stepped off a plane into the Riverside in 1996."

One small thing, Rob, Juninho signed for Boro in 1995

I think people can get very blasé about his signing now especially when The prem
Is awash with South American players like agueto etc.

it annoys when the likes of shearer etc say yes he was a Good player... but I don’t think it can be stressed how amazing this deal was, Juno wore no 10 for Brazil when sign him the key jersey for the Seleção.

I still think it was the biggest deal in premier league history in terms of significance as it was absolutely incredible.

I have done a quick re-write - I only had about five minutes warning to write that initial piece - just a few more lines now about Juninho and the feeling we had on his arrival.
It is a great thing Mikkel Beck has done in starting the ball rolling on this match - it really is the only light at the end of the tunnel and something to keep locked down for. To make sure we are all safe and well to enjoy experience.

Gazette headlines when he arrives for the 5th time, Ola, Ola, Ola, Juninhooo

I was one of the lucky ones who was there when he first arrived it was just a magical day.

I was a lover of all things Brazil since I was A kid Ever since I saw zico on tv and I already had a Brazil top ( I had to order it from jack hatfields) long before this. But here he was Brazil’s no 10 and he was ours.

amazing.

I agree Zorro, it is almost impossible to explain to my 11 year old son just what a deal this was, newly promoted Middlesbrough signed Brazils player of the year and the guy had played in the Umbro tournament the previous summer wearing the number 10 shirt for Brazil alongside Ronaldo, scoring a free kick against England and setting up Ronaldo.

Absolutely love the little fella. I count myself so lucky to have seen him play on our turf, sometimes turning teams over single handed.

Probably the biggest deal since Alf Common. ;)

I remember me and the lad were is Sainsburys in Boro when we heard he had signed. We were dancing about like daft lads we were that excited.

Like you zorro I was a massive Brazil fan. I had been since my Dad took me to the Town Hall Crypt in about 1963 or 4 to see films of their 1958 and 1962 World Cup wins. Reel to reel projector footage in black and white. I was hooked and still am to this day.
