A few months ago I posted on here about a book I was working on about Juninho's time at Middlesbrough. That book - The Little Fella - now has a publisher and my first draft is going to them next month.

As the book's sub-title is 'How Middlesbrough Fell in Love with Juninho', I wanted to dedicate a chapter to fans' thoughts/memories/feelings about Juninho.

I've love to hear your opinions, so please do post below or email me at dmbroome@hotmail.com (ideally with your name, location, how long you've been a Boro fan etc) if you're happy for your comments to be used in print.

Many thanks for your time and I look forward to reading your messages!

I think people may have missed this post - being at pub closing time last night.
I hope people will get in touch with David for his book - should be really interesting perspective on the Juninho Boro era now that we can stand back a few years on and reflect over it.

Just hoofing this up again - I have made a few contributions about Juninho's signing and first seasons.
I remember I was in Kwik Save when news came through he had definitely signed - no Kwik Save anymore and I felt elated it was like Boro were suddenly playing in a different universe.
For a couple of seasons we were truly living our dreams.
I suppose for someone of my generation Brazil 1970 was the ultimate fantasy football team and to sign the Player of the Year from the greatest football nation felt so exceptionally exciting.
Do gave David an email about your memories of Juninho's debut. Or what you felt like when we were relegated and he left.
Or how about when he returned not once but twice. And then the injury that denied us seeing the player that had just played as sub in the World Cup final.. so many memories. I was so lucky in that I saw him play in Yokohama in the final minutes for Germany - and at that time I was thinking our former superstar was playing in the World Cup Final Wow..

The Daily Telegraph, not known for its flamboyance, had a beautiful image of Juninho, wearing the Brasilian 10, framed by the transporter bridge. It was stunning, and I was hooked. I think the writer was Henry Winter who, then and now, was well respected, and the words described a lad from the North East of Brazil finding potentially a second home on Teesside. I was terrified that he’d be a disappointment. Full of ability, but shy on attitude. How happily wrong was I, and I’m convinced I wasn’t the only one who feared the same. The home debut, the ball to Fjortoft, and the whole stadium knew we’d signed a wizard. He then showed that his guile was matched by a love of running with the ball, at full pelt, either side of the defender and, WOW, we had something special on our hands.
I thought we’d signed the greatest player on earth. Then he starts and finishes a move with a diving header, and I knew it! At that time, he was as good as, or arguably better, than anyone playing the game on the planet.
Love the bones of the little fella
