Simple really. They wanted him, they had a valuation, they stuck to it. A positive because it shows they weighed up the risks and quite possibly they have learned from mistakes of the past as they refused to overpay, despite the general disappointment of the window and it’s impending closure. Not a rara moment I don’t think, just a subject for discussion on a boro forum and perhaps in hindsight an example that the club are being responsible when it comes to balancing finances and ambition. How is another player that the recruitment team identified after long scouting and attempted to sign multiple times - used as positive?
Like well done Boro on not managing to sign that player you identified and chased all summer.
Strange take, but then again, some Boro fans a rara to the extreme.

They were both dropped against Fulham.
They then both started against Hull.
Connolly then started against Bournemouth and didn't start any of the remaining 5 games after that.
Balogun started against Cardiff after that.
It was Watmore, Coburn and Sporar that were starting ahead of Balogun after he scored his 3 goals, bar that one game against Bournemouth.
This is it for me we made so much money but left glaring holes in the squad then threw wilder under the bus as he couldn't get the squad fighting for promotionNo I think people are still disappointed that £22.5m profit came in over the summer, our summer window was a shocker and we are a point above the relegation places.
