Josh Coburn

No he isn't, and as good a prospect he is, if he was it would be too much pressure on him I think, plus he has scored 1 goal in his last 20. I think he is one for the future, but not someone we should be piling expectations on yet

seemed to start well but spent a lot of time sat on the bench second half of the season. 10 in 35 appearances not bad but not great when considering its league 1.

Although I understand the point you are making I personally don't think it would be putting too much pressure on his young shoulders if he was sat on the bench and feel he would only gain further experience from it.

Anyway, it's all hypothetical, he's not available for the play-offs but he's certainly one for the future. Something we all agree on.

0.4 goals / 90 mins, equates to about 18 goals if he played every game. Not bad for a first full season and he was flying at the turn of the year. A bit of a downturn to be expected after that. Young player of the year there and clearly has gone down well since they want him back.

I think it was more of a team issue for his goal drought 2nd half of the season, even Collins' output reduced massively in 2023

Apparently Joey Barton couldn't stick with a forward line up, would sometimes be a 2 with Collins behind, a front 3 with Collins out wide or a front 2 with Collins, with the other strikers being different every game and not really getting a run in the team

Think most of Coburns goals came when he and Collins played in a front 2

He's probably at the level now of being a regular starter in a striking pair for a side like Rotherham or possibly Birmingham, or a handy bench player to bring on for his fresh young legs and able to do a job for the closing stages of a game in a Playoff team.

For that reason he would be handy to have as one of our subs, especially if one of our regular forwards is carrying a knock, but it would be a big ask for him to step into the starting lineup, especially with so much riding on it.

Coburn could easily have filled the role that Muniz has played this season. However probably best that he had the loan spell where he got regular minutes. Depending on what division we are in and how he performs pre-season, will either be a valued member of the first team squad or a championship loan.

You never know with youngsters out on loan. Sometimes they smash it, come back and don't really do much. Sometimes they seem underwhelming, come back and slot into the first team seamlessly.

Nice if they go out on loan and look too good for the league, but I don't think it means too much if they don't. It's more about the experience, getting game time and being out of their comfort zone.

It'll have helped him enormously. Whether he's good enough for a place in the squad next year will depend on what Carrick and other coaches think when they see him in training, how well he does in pre-season and probably what division were in.

Harry Kane scored 12 goals in 40 appearances across loan spells at Millwall and Orient. He was a year or two younger than Coburn is now.

He then failed to score on loan at Norwich and Leicester.

He's gone on to do ok.

There will be 000's of potential strikers who gave gone out on loan and turned out to be also rans.
No shame in that and no shame if that's where Coburn ends up.

As you have highlighted though - there is hope

There is two sides to his loan, pre possible injury where he was regularly scoring and getting rave reviews, from his manager, other managers and the press, then a possible injury which has affected his last few months but towards the end he was picking up again. He might be injury prone which mean his career will be stop and start, I hope pre injury is his baseline from which given time and experience he will progress, he is still young and learning and he can score regularly when he is fully fit.

He done pretty well, won young player of the year for them. Scored a few goals in a struggling team but not boat loads. I feel another loan next is probably best for him. Maybe in the championship or the top end of league 1.
