Josh Coburn.

I thought he'd be loaned out, with Kavanagh playing the role of young striker, back up reserve etc give Coburn a year away somewhere and come back next year ready to stake a claim for a starting role.

But the way our recruitment has gone, and the fact it looks like Akpom is going to stay i'd be annoyed if we loaned Coburn out and kept Akpom, may be thinking long term in any decision but right here, right now i think Coburn is a far better option but if we get Forss, Muniz, Armstrong + Watmore, how much will Coburn even play? Im not sure whats for the best.

It depends how many we bring in ultimately. If it's 3 then I would expect him to be loaned out.

He's probably behind Watmore and Forss and ahead of Akpom at the moment?

There's a chance he could stay as 5th choice I guess, effectively the role he had last season.

Not sure how long left on his contract but if 2years or less then I'd want him to sign an extension before going on loan.

I would definitely keep him at least until January as currently he is the best goalscorer in the squad I think. I would prefer a chance to fall to Coburn ahead of anyone else, certainly ahead of akpom, although akpom might be a bit better at running about and pressing at this moment.

2025 plus we have a year option

We need another couple of experienced forwards, Akpom could be used as 4th or 5th choice and Coburn getting a full season in Div 1 would be far better for him than spending his time playing U23 and a few sub appearances

So you’d rather send coburn our on loan and keep akpom ?

Just watching the training videos. With all these new strikers coming in, I still reckon he could be our top scorer this season, if we keep him here. (y)
I totally agree. I might have a £10 on him being our top scorer and really do a jones and break through...he has the finishing ability...can he step up when called upon ?

I'd say let's see how Akpom gets on in these opening games.

I don't expect him to start on Saturday but I'd imagine he'll get 20-30 minutes 2nd half. If he can show the manager that he has something to offer I'd be tempted to send Coburn out on loan.

He’d be playing if it was up to me - what use is mincing about on loan in league one. Get the lad in there an see what he can do 👍🏻

I mentioned on twitter that young Kav has to go out on loan for a full year to get his body robust and get the minutes in his legs. His Dad liked the tweet, young Kav will go out on loan, I have no doubt.

With Giles and Jones providing the crosses we need a presence, which Coburn could give us. He seems less gangly this year. If Muniz is the only bigger guy we get up top I would keep him.

He looked ready when he smashed it past Lloris in the FA Cup.
I get the impression that is what most people are judging him on, it was a great goal and he definitely has a future but just not quite ready for this season but we will see.

a moment doesn't define a whole career
It's not just one moment though is it? His finish at West Brom away was excellent too. The header vs Sheff Wed. The boy can finish, he has a good goals per minute ratio. If we get 3 top strikers in and his game time is going to be limited then by all means send him out on loan. There's no way Chuba Akpom should be ahead of him in the pecking order at the minute though.

He can finish but being a striker above low league levels is about more than just finishing. It's a vital part, and one that Akpom doesn't have, of course.

He struggles energy-wise, not surprising, he's a big lad. 20 mins last season and he was really puffing, it'll take a couple of years to really build up that core of stamina and learn when and how to use his energy.

To play in a wilder team, you have to do your job when we are not in possession, and right now he can't really do that.

He's clearly a better bet than Akpom, but Akpom will likely be gone in 5 weeks, Coburn may be here, or may be out on loan. Akpom playing against Marseille was simply to see the game out and not risk getting an injury to Coburn.
