absolutely this. We shot ourselves in the foot really with that bit of business. We could have spent that 8m difference on an attacking midfielder to feed Bamford and gone up
Monk (and Pulis) have a lot to answer for.

We already had Bamford and Stuani when relegated.

Yet Monk felt the need to spend £30m on Britt, Fletcher and Braithwaite. Absolutely bonkers.

The club are not astute/canny at times - I also do genuinely think its a bit harder to get players to the North East especially initially. Possibly agents us the club and its supporters a bit more than some other clubs but they know we are keen. Still we can be cleverer at times. Under AK we discovered some decent players virtually for nothing - Ramirez, Stuani, Nsue, Fabio, Federicks (loan), Kalas (loan), Bamford (loan) and under Mogga (Friend, Leadbitter, Ayala, Adomah)

Tbf Garry Monk didn't fancy Bamford or Stuani and neither did Uncle Tony. It's the price we pay for appointing the wrong manager - imho Gibson has only made 2, maybe 3 successful appointments in the past 30 years (Mclaren, Karanka and EL Tel)

I look forward to reading all about him, getting excited about signing him, only to miss out to Huddersfield on transfer deadline day because we were all wanted to do our transfer policy by referendum.

On a serious not he looks like a heavy direct player. Which is what we miss in the centre. If Saturday told us anything it is that we need the forward options to be in the right place at the right time, be direct and strong; if we can get this we have lots of goals in us. The market moves quick and there is a premium for a player like the one we are looking for - whatever we end up doing it will be a gamble. I also would rather get the full time permanent signings in before getting over dependent on prem loans.

Had to Google him ( Jizz Hornkamp seriously) was sure it was a wind up even Google does not auto suggest links when you put his name in because it sounds naughty ..😌 really want us to sign him now for the name alone
The Dutch do have some strange names, remember Martin Jol, Spurs manager. His brother was called Kock Jol.

Then there was that Dutch forward who played for Liverpool, Dirk Kiyt and his brother Bobby…

You think Robson a man who completely changed the culture of the club was unsuccessful? He left us in a far better position than before he came.

Robson raised the profile of the club for evermore. Yes ultimately it didn’t work out, but being too young for the Charlton and Rioch years, the era of Robson is still my favourite ever time as a Boro fan, (whilst also being the most painful time!)

I'm not too young for the Rioch years, and although it was an amazing experience to live through, the Robson years were different gravy.

We actually had a glimpse at a very promising future for a while there. I mean the players that came into the club at that time we could never have dreamed of in the Rioch years. Ziege, Ince, Merson, Gazza, Rava, Juninho, Emerson, the list goes on. Rioch did amazing things with no money, but it was short lived and ultimately nearly went back to tier 3 again. Robson was the catalyst for shaping the modern football club and it couldn't really have happened with some manager who didn't have the reputation, ambition and clout that robson had.

I remember wondering as a kid if we would ever have a full England international at our club ever again, it was in the days before foreign players came over to this country, there had only been a handful like Molby and Olsen, so I didn't even consider signing foreign stars. The Robson years changed that entirely, maybe partly because of the launch of the premier league also, timing was key, but he was the perfect man for that time.

Bamford was better than Britt - we all knew it - so why do sell one for £7m and buy the other one for £15m?

Not clever.
Bamford and Britt played in the same side we didnt replace like for like and thats the clubs decision not mine on the pricing etc

They did overlap, but ultimately the 15m investment in Britt was what did for Bamford. We should never have bought Britt, we should have played Bamford and maybe Braithwaite would have been happier playing alongside an intelligent footballer.

I dont disagree that the fee for Britt was inflated but played in a 2 to just put the ball in the net he would still do that in this division and could do more but yet again another player whos attitude and commitment is always questionable

Monk was a charlatan and I don’t think he ever put his heart into the job. He didn’t endear himself to the fans or the area, and I don’t know many who liked him when he was here. One thing I would say though is that he spotted Tav’s potential and put him in the team when he was still 17 or 18.

Beat me to it. One of our best managers- yes eventually unsuccessful and lost his bottle when we went up the second time, but if that team had stayed up it would've won everything- Schwarzer, Cafu, Nadal, Festa, Roberto Carlos, Juninho, Emerson, Ince, Batistuta, Kanchelskis, Ravanelli- won't see the possibility in our lifetime ever again, and all due to Robson and his draw.

It still knarks me to this day. We just needed to sign a no 10 to replace Ramirez and we could have had Bamford and Stuani battle it out for the no 9 role.

Then Pulis comes out and says we have 5 players all wanting to be no 9 and sarcastically described it as "wonderful recruitment", whilst failing to recognise that he'd contributed to the problem by selling Bamford and replacing him with Hugill, meaning we still had 5 strikers all wanting to be the no 9.
