I don't want to take anything away from JH, but he's some way behind Mustoe for me.
RM is ahead on longevity and achievement. Plus JH carries the millstone of that Summer of largesse. I don't think anyone would doubt RM was great value. JH has probably justified his price in the end, but I'm not sure we'd be quick to spend 7m on a holding player again in this division
Stats wise, RM is still 150 appearance and about 25 goals clear of JH.

Hands up, I wasn‘t a fan for his first couple of years, but then he turned into one of our most important players and one of the best midfielders in the division. He still is, imo.
Starts every game for me when fit. Not bad for someone who has needed replacing every summer for the past 4 years, according to some on here.

He’s improved significantly under Wilder and now Carrick.
He was very average under Monk, Pulis, Woodgate* and even Warnock in my opinion. Didn’t do enough to influence a game.
I think his finest performance in a Boro shirt came in the Spurs cup game under Wilder. Absolutely flawless in that game.
Legend? No I don’t think so, not yet, he needs promotion or a cup win this season.
*did well when being forced into playing as a makeshift defender I’ll give him credit for that.

Up until recently his goal scoring was about as good as Adam Clayton's (who couldnt hit a barn door)
