Jones

Oh get what you are saying, he looked like someone from the crowd had won a prize for a cameo appearance. His confidence has plummeted but also we have to stop pretending that two months where he did really well last year is the norm, what we are seeing may be the norm, and that two months was anomaly. At the moment he doesn’t deserve to be in the starting XI and maybe you are right not on the bench. If Ramsay and Muniz were fit then, yes it’s hard to argue with that
I'm sure he'll do well with the great support we have :)

Jones didn't have much impact when he came on, his confidence seems low at the moment, however Akpom probably made less of a contribution and missed a great chance, will there be a named thread about him?

I’m glad to see him back involved as of all the players you think would thrive under carricks swashbuckling style Isiah must be right up there.

Jones will need coaching, he’s only really made an impact when he first came on the scene

Since teams have had quite a bit on him to scout and plan it seems he’s been easy to combat against. We haven’t seen an excellent performance from him since he came back from injury.

Next 6-12 months are massive for his career

As punters we should be allowed to comment on what we see and form an opinion on the performance. What we are unaware off are any factors that might affect that performance - most of which are touched on above. These opinions will differ wildly and not knowing the hidden factors will form part of the reason for the performance that we cannot comment on with any level of knowledge. Therefore we say things like - struggling, confidence poor, not fitting in, Jones will come good again but he is jigsaw piece in the wrong jigsaw at the mo....

He's a young player going through a tough run of form. It doesn't help that other teams know how to defend against him now. That space he was able to run into has all but disappeared now because teams know that if you block off the space he'll usually go backwards whilst if you get tight he'll run into the space and hurt you. I'm sure he's working on his game to become less one dimensional and harder to defend against in the future.

All young players go through a tough run of form and they need to get through it if they're going to make it at the top level. Hackney will go through it, Fry has gone through it. He hasn't suddenly become a terrible player over night, but he does need to prove that he has the mental toughness to make it at this, and higher, levels.

You are allowed, as are other punters who watch the same thing say you're wrong.

Jones was brought on to help cover defensively, which he largely did well. Not sure what you're expecting from him in that scenario.

It's not about support, sometimes its ability and attitude. I'd be perfectly happy for him to prove me wrong, but I think he'll be gone in 6 months. 3 Years ago people on here thought that Wing would come good again because he scored a few screamers in his first season. But bottom line was he didn't have the general footballing intelligence or physical attributes to play at championship level. Maybe it's the same with Jones?

Akpom did well dropping deep and picking it up, he did far more than Jones, although to be fair Jones wasn't on that long.....it was a bit of a sitter he missed mind.

Teams are worried we'll pass through the lines, so they are sitting more compact and deeper generally, so it's fair to say there isn't a lot of space for Jones to run into. Now, if we continue to play this style we need players that have abilities to play with their head up and make good decisions in passing, and moving. Jones hasn't shown an ability to do those things, so maybe his strengths won't fit with Carricks team?
