Jones outstanding

Not to be a miserable b***r, but he wasn't in the league of Howson, Dikjsteel, McNair or Fry for the first 60 mins. Some incredible performances there
No panic against a superior team, just cool heads. Which gave us a great platform

It was an excellent defence and midfield showing that won the game in reality. Howson was sublime as were Dijksteel, Fry and McNair, Jones, Crooks, Tav, but one man who rarely gets mentioned is Taylor. He was far more involved and did his bit too, superb finish by Josh though and as one of Lumleys biggest critics, take a bow son.

And - he was marking Son. The one Spurs player who I thought could really tear us apart.

Tell you what, Paddy McNair was fantastic. His ability to play as a centre back AND a midfielder at the same time is essential for this system. He was the extra man a lot of the time, stepping up to support the attack or stepping back to keep it tight at the back, so much discipline and quality. I think he’s the ‘overlapping CB’ of Wilder’s Boro team, and honestly I don’t know how we could replace him.

There was a piece of play between Jones, Dijksteel and Balogun at the end of the first half of extra time, and it was absolutely brilliant to watch. Slick, quick, passage of play that ended up with a run in the box. To do that in extra time as well, just amazing.

it looked like conte changed it to 442 and then changed it back to 532 because they couldn't handle jones running at them.

I think Jones played smartly yesterday. He could beat their full backs for pace but he wouldn't have been able to last the full 90/120 playing that kind of game. By being more conservative in the first half he kept the energy to terrorise them from half time and onwards. I think he had a great game. Nothing much between our best players yesterday, and I have to say, from half time onwards that's the best I've seen Boro play for probably over a decade. Unbelievable performance.

I think any disappointment over the performance of Jones last night was because he didn't look head and shoulders above the rest of the team. This was more to do with how well the rest played, rather than any lowering of quality from Jones though
