Could we try using Isaiah Jones in midfield to utilise his pace and creativity as a poss replacement for tav.

I think you could play 4231 with our team, wouldn’t be much in terms of back up in wide areas but suppose Watmore could play in one of them positions as it’s his natural position anyway.

Steffen

Dijksteel
Fry
Lenihan
Bola

Howson
Crooks

Jones
McGree
Giles

Muniz

I've suggested it before, using him in Crooks role, with either Smith or Djiksteel behind him. Puts pace into midfield and takes some of the defensive burden off his shoulders. I don't knownif it would work but I do know what we are doing now isn't working. I'm not a big fan of crooks tbh, there's there's reason he spent most of his career at likes of Accrington, Scunthorpe, Northampton. He isn't a top championship level player and isn't going to turn in to one at 28, and alongside Howson is a very poor midfield that was carried by Tav last season.

I would definitely try that, let’s be honest we aren’t doing much in wide areas anyway, one thing is for certain, repeating the same scenario week in and week out, will provide the same results.

We have the players to play 4-2-3-1, with Jones as the right of one of the 3. It’s crying out for us to try it, but Mr Stubborn persists with his “system”, for which we don’t have the players for.
Play that system on Wednesday night and we'll beat Birmingham. Probably won't be pretty and we might only scrape it because the players aren't used to that system. But they sure as sh*t don't look used to the current system he's playing because as you say, we aren't suited to it.

If we play 4 at the back, can you imagine what any club with a bit of speed would do against Lenihan and Clarke?
Smith yesterday couldn't even make a simple 10 yd pass.
Does that mean we have to go back to
Djiksteel Fry McNair Bola?

I think most of us would play Jones and Giles as wingers
Then the rest of the midfield is between
Howson Crookes McGree....... Mowatt if we are desperate
Muniz is a certain starter Akpom or Watmore alongside
Then there is the Forss Hoppe question to be answered
When will they be fully developed?

I agree with a change in formation our present on has been sussed we are not scoring and not stopping goals.
I was OK with the 0-0 against Rotherham because it was the first step forward all being a small one. But yesterday's performance means we have to make some change we can't go on doing the same thing It just isn't working

Only my opinion - but absolutely no chance of it working!

Do you mean instead of Crooks? (Who I agree needs replacing) Or altering the system? I can see him as an 'impact number 10' causing problems but not any deeper than that unfortunately.

The attributes needed to play in central midfield are totally different to what Jones has. Isaiah is a dribbler (a good one) - he isn't a good passer, doesn't have a great first touch or top level decision making. He also doesn't have the physicality and he certainly doesn't have the positional experience.

Remember, he came from non league as an out and out winger and has already made a transition to wingback. Even Ryan Giggs/Downing rarely got used centrally until much later in their careers. Both of them had years of youth coaching before a decade at the highest level developing their game. Isaiah lacks a lot of the technical grounding (and physique) to play central midfield.

To be fair, I wouldn't be adverse to moving him to number 10 (behind two strikers if we are chasing the game) but I just can't see how he succeeds in the Crooks position on a permanent basis.

It would be crazy to give CW the job, a manager who has used his favored way of playing to great success, and then expect him to play 442, or any other system for that matter.

Either back him with the players to play the way he wants, or get rid.

I actually think the formation is the least of our problems.

I don't think it's the formation as much as it's players aren't playing for him. Its not surprising really when he's called out so many senior pros.
