Johnson on Andrew Marr this morning

Simply unbelievable to listen to his explanation of what the government has done so far to fight COVID. He didn’t read the report he got in July ( as outed by Starmer) from SAGE that warned of new variants in the Winter so took action too late again. Horrible horrible man

It's hardly a surprise he doesn't read stuff. He was exactly the same as Foreign Secretary.

Marr hasn't been great I think. Interuppted too much.

Johnson talks far too much while actually saying nothing. An embarrassment to this nation, especially to those who put him in this position, and whose utter ineptitude has led to thousands upon thousands of deaths that were unnecessary. Yet, he still wants to cause more death and devastation by not shutting schools.

A man who will be joining Maggie downstairs when the grim reaper comes calling, of that there is no doubt.

Scum is too good a word for him.

Marr and the BBC are guilty of cramming far too much into these programmes. Peston does exactly the same. Try devoting more time to these important guests to allow them time to explain matters properly or hang themselves.

Repeating the news headlines for 5 minutes that most people have seen anyway on BBC Breakfast earlier etc, then viewing the newspaper headlines that are all online or on doorsteps and, then, giving Vicky Young or Jane time Moore to discuss them and their mums vaccine questions is not always necessary in my opinion. Doing so turns off viewers, allows guests to waffle wasting time and ignore the important questions.

I was actually getting pretty annoyed at that interview, slightly because of Marr's interview technique, but that's just his style I suppose, but far more so with further ineptitude from Johnson. Still hasn't read the report and still no grasp of numbers on the vaccine rollout. That was an obvious question to be asked so to not have a suitable answer prepared is reckless. Even if you dont have a number, you must have a ball park figure. To say he doesn't wish to speculate is more evidence (as if there wasn't enough already) of his incompetence as PM, it feels like he just doesn't take anything seriously. He sets his bar very low and still fails to achieve that level

He is supposed intelligence beguiles so many people but lots of the media are convinced his bumbling is all contrived & by design.
Whatever the truth is, he shouldn't be anywhere near government. Yet another Etonian who proves there are still those in this country who are born to govern because of their ancestors, no matter what.
He made his mark as an eccentric journalist that was good for a few minutes on newsnight and that's where he should have stayed.
He is corrupt, devious and lies, lies, lies.

Coluka I think that may be a little unfair on the broadcasters. Johnson's 'people' dictate how long the interview will be citing 'other commitments'. I'm sure Marr, Ridge, Peston etc. would love a 2 hour interview where they could dig deep, explore and generally give Johnson a good seeing to but that will never be allowed to happen unfortunately.

Let’s not forget he ran and ram from an interview with Andrew Neil. He’s a spineless, lying stain on life.

Thats not what I am suggesting though Borofur. It was Marr that kept interrupting to get in his questions, talking over Johnsons undoubted waffle, leaving not enough time for Marr to effectively respond to comments and unanswered points asked. The programme time can remain, just cut out unnecessary bits some programmes, especially when the PM himself has come out of hiding. Imho, the current programme cramming allows MP’s to waffle and hide behind it, saying what they want rather than answering the questions asked because anchormen want to keep moving on and MP’s don’t. It is tactical time wasting. Bettinelli would be a good MP.

His whole government avoided even Piers Morgan on GMTV for months because of the awkward questions.

I wonder when it comes out what has really been happening in government during the pandemic.

Of course it is, it’s an image. Look at the times he’s ruffled his hair before going on tv.

Unlike thatcher who came across as aloof and authoritarian, Boris comes across as a harmless oaf a figure of fun the jolly fat man with the silly hair - which is the really scary thing given they share the same views.

That's a tactic I'd like to see. Instead of interruptions, let him waffle on and maintain a silence after the waffle, followed with a simple "can you elaborate on that?"

Give him the opportunity to fail spectacularly and further expose his fragility as a well informed, robust leader

I may not have been clear Coluka. What I was trying to say is even if the producers stripped everything else out of the running order Johnson would still only do 20 minutes. That would be stipulated by his people and if Marr tried to extend the interview he wouldn't get another one in the future.

Let's say he's got 6 key questions he wants to put to Johnson in those 20 minutes but Johnson waffles and waffles. Marr has got no option but to interrupt and it makes for terrible viewing.

I agree and I appreciate that 👍 but constant waffling and not answering questions stands out far more and comes across as less acceptable than when it seems the interviewer is talking over the answers and not looking like the MP is being allowed to answer imho. Piers Morgan does the same.

Absolutely right of course, you don’t get to be prime minister by being an idiot, he knows exactly what he is doing but portrays an image of himself.

This shows exactly how he sets that image up.

That's a really fascinating insight actually and shows what an absolute chancer we have leading the country. One who has convinced 51.6% of British people to take a massive gamble on a future that might not even happen.

Interesting read that article and highlights how and why so many people fall for the act. However, once you know how the trick is performed, it's no longer a wonderful moment of magic, it's exposed for being disingenuous, fraudulent, and deliberately misleading. That is no longer something to marvel at, but something to be cautious of
