Johnson has the virus

Some absolute moronic statements on this thread, some of you seem to know an awful lot about johnson and how he operates, I think he's done very well considering what's going on, hope he makes a swift recovery and swift return

It seems so crazy that most people get it mild and are fine and then you just see others who it tears apart and it feels like a lottery in what level you get 🙈

The linked article has a good layman's explanation why some get more sick than others. Quote below is from the article...

"So what is this "cytokine storm" that you keep hearing about? In essence when a virus attacks a host, it is like an invasion. The virus lands on a beachhead - in humans it is usually in the throat - and starts multiplying in large numbers. When there is a high viral concentration or viral load, the virus enters the blood stream or moves through lymphatic system or via secretions, and can spread to other organs. In the case of Covid-19, it spreads deeper into the lungs where it targets a receptor called the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme receptor.

Why do some patients have a mild disease while others are warded in intensive care? This is because when there is a huge viral load, the body responds massively. In healthcare workers, our immune systems are constantly challenged as we meet lots of patients daily and are exposed to the viruses or bacteria that they carry. Our immune system is primed to deliver an overwhelming response especially in the face of a huge viral load. It is precisely this overwhelming response that may make us very ill and be warded into intensive care. "

The following link is to comments by a world expert in cytokine storm syndromes. Of interesting comparison is the 2009 H1N1 flu epidemic. This also triggered cytokine storms. And killed 575,000 people world wide, 80% of them under 65. Puts the current epidemic into perspective. (So far we're up to 28,000 deaths).

We probably all thought differently about this virus a few weeks ago.
I'm sure some did but not all, by any means. And all of us were not getting daily briefings from infectious disease specialists advising on what should and shouldn't be done. His remarks came at a time when the WHO was saying that people should not be shaking hands and other countries such as France had already warned its citizens about the practice. He basically said that he didn't care and was going to do it anyway. Here are his actual words, when asked by a reporter if he would change his behaviour at all:
"I was at a hospital the other night where I think a few there were actually coronavirus patients and I shook hands with everybody, you'll be pleased to know, and I continue to shake hands."

Let me just add that I have every sympathy with Johnson as a patient and wish him a speedy recovery.

Given some of the other stuff he has done. Plus Cummings in the background. I wonder whether this could be fake news. To scare people into taking care.

If it is then in some ways I think well done.

If it isn't then like any other human being I hope he gets through it.

Reliable sources are saying 59k deaths in Wuhan and close to 100k in total in China

The cynic in me: For someone with a persistent cough he did well to get through 2 minutes speech without the whiff of a cough starting

Personally I do think he has tested positive.

Still reading people praising Johnson’s approach to Covid - not got a reference point yet from anyone though.

He openly talked about shaking hands with sufferers. If he did, he clearly didn’t use the correct hygiene standards afterwards. He then openly ignored social distancing advice.
Guess what, he didn’t follow the advice and got the virus.

People have, quite rightly, gone mental on here at those ‘selfish idiots’ who won’t follow the government advice.
Next time can we just take a deep breath and remember the example set by the leader of this country.

Him doing it makes him an idiot. That should not stop people calling out other idiots. All idiots are making the situation worse for all of us.

We have to get the growth rate to near zero. One idiot can make a big difference in that happening and not happening.

I’m certainly with you on this.
Find it a challenge that one of them is singled out as ‘doing a good job’ for the country tho
Call out all the idiots works for me

So only one source then - a woman on Twitter whose main qualification is that she hasn't been suspended yet? I'm not convinced that qualifies as "reliable sources" (plural).

There’s plenty more out there, I gave you one example

This happens all the time, you post a link and the response is it’s only ‘one’.
