Joe Root

Why on earth has he not declared before now?
Makes me say again he's not an England captain give Ben Stokes the job ASAP. Roots catancy and decision making getting questioned by Sky commentators who by the way are very experienced players and captains of both sides.

i know what your saying, but stokes was the captain last week and for me he made a couple of bad decisions leading to defeat.

The slow scoring rate made a declaration almost impossible, how many teams declare a first innings below 500? It think the idea was after yesterday bat as long as we can get to 500/550 and then declare (hopefully before lunch tomorrow) and try and bowl them out twice on a deteriorating pitch, once we were 9 down having an hour tonight was probably the best thing he could do.

Also don't forget Root is haunted by his third innings declaration a few years ago against the windies when they needed 300+ on the last day and won by a country mile.

Captains who did not declare early themselves. Must be easy for them now they commentate

You need 500 if you wanna bowl them twice. 3 days left not much to criticise
