Joe Root

Absolute class. Clearly has gone back to basics with his trigger movements however test will be to see if he's learnt from when Cummings and Hazlewood did him over time after time. One of the best English batsmen of all time if not the best.

Last 10 mins have swung the test Sri Lanka‘s way. Think we are going to need another big knock off him.

33rd century for England. God status 👍👏👏👏
Level with Alistair Cook now as joint top tons scorer in Test cricket for England. Won’t catch Tendulkar of course but 7th on the all time list test runs and closing in on Sangakara in 6th and Cook in 5th.

I recall a few people saying Root was past it not so long ago. Obviously, they were on crack.

When he’s on it, he’s just ridiculously good and effortless.

So glad he’s now went back to being Joe Root rather than trying to play a game that simply never suited. He was always too good to be getting dismissed in the way he was.

His natural scoring rate has never been a problem. If the players around him want to go ultra aggressive, he should always be the glue in that middle order and provide the balance.

Unbelievable knock today. Rooooooooooot!!

2012-2020 he had 17 100s and 49 50s.

2021-2024 he's had 16 100s and 15 50s.

Additional context around conversion

What's his average for each period, that's the only way to judge, and looking at the high number of half centuries for that first period I'd suggest there's not much in it.

Centuries are great to have under the belt but a high average score is better for the team.

Averaged 48 between debut and the end of 2020 - remarkably consistent regardless of whether or not he 'converted'
Currently averaging just shy of 51 across his entire career; greatest English bat ever and its not even close.

Which proves the point, to add 3 points to your average at starting point of 8 years shows you are scoring better/more consistently

I suspect his average would have be high 50’s maybe 60 to achieve that 3 point gain over that 4 year period
