Jesse Lingard

It's the post-Bosman reality: money that would have gone on a fee now goes to the player.

I suppose that Forest would take the view that, if they were paying a fee for him, they'd be paying £20+ million for him before they even paid him a penny.

If they stay up, they'll consider it great business.
If they go down, we'll they're not lumbered with the wages next year.

The only real risk is to Lingard if he get a serious injury, but I'll not worry too much about him on that sort of contract.

29 year old England International signing a 1 year contract with a newly promoted club. He won't have any shame though.

Hel probably make the season more comfortable but I think they’d if stayed up without him and Those wages . But sometimes yiu need to through money at it ' big contrast to Norwich

Signed for Nottingham Forest on a one year contract for contract believed to be between 180k and 200k a week. Utterly mental.
If Forest fail they've more than blown their money. They've spent about 90m in transfer fees, and wages must have gone up by 50m+

I'm pleased to see Jesse take this risk. Let's face it he's going to be starting just about every game, but it's not just in the starting for me which makes this story so good for me it shows that players want to be playing and are willing to help newly promoted sides-- similar to what Ericksen did at Brentford last season.

It is nowhere near 180k. More like 80k. Though Forest have clearly smashed through any pay ceiling they did have.

Transfer fee included, we probably spent more on Fletcher. I think Lingard will have a greater effect in one season for Forest, no brainer for them.
Excellent point. To think how much it cost us for Fletcher and the abomination that is Gestede - in fees and wages.:eek:
This is cute by forest. Stay up and its money well spent; go down and they are shot of him from the wages. Obviously, for one year contract the wages would have to be huge because of his risk of getting injured and being left without a club etc.

The modern game isn't it? Mental.

My only question mark would be his motivation. He's not gone there for any footballing reason whatsoever. It's purely about how much money he can coin in.

If the going gets tough will he care? I suppose Forest are banking on him being professional and putting in big performances to make sure he gets offered another big contract.

But if it's a tight relegation battle at the back end of the year is he going to be running through walls for you? Will he play if he has a niggle? Or is he going to ease off to make sure he doesn't pick up an injury before he can find another mug to throw loads of money at him?

Really good signing for forest I reckon. They need a bit of PL experience and quality and he has that. He’ll have the chance to be a proper leader there so it’s up to him to write the script now. I hope he does well.

they do need experience, and he brings that. My question would be around his hunger.

Well it's a lot more sensible than buying the waifs and strays we did when we finally got up, before giving a bigger wodge to Garry F***ing monk in the division below.

It's a great transfer. Like barmby for us.
I guess the 1 year contract is a key to this. It protects them if relegated. My big issue for them is they have bought a lot of new players, and have gambled on staying up. If they can get them to gel, they might be fine. If not and they get relegated, they'll probably be using the parachute payments to avoid going into admin.

Load of balls. He'll earn more in one year than you will in your life. It's not such a short career, and you can find other work after football.

It's a job at the end of the day. Earn as much as you can and set yourself up for later life. Not sure what my earnings have to do with anything, I'm well aware of that, he's a professional footballer playing in the premier league.

If it’s only for one year, the transfer is only costing them 1.4 million, which is probs worth it money wise as he will defos help them stay up? Still think 200k a week is way too much tho.

The deal is cheaper than signing Tavernier and his wages will be incentivised, so whilst he's picking up a basic of £80k a week with all the add ones that will benefit Forest as well as Lingard himself.

It's a smart option given his age and limited sell on value, if it doesn't go well they pay £4.1m and have no long term commitment should their revenue streams be reduced by relegation. Smart deal in my opinion with little downside for either party.

That's not a risk, it's a necessity. Loan players made 150 league starts between them for Forest last season. 11x46 = 506. Effectively 30% of starting appearences for them were by loanees, none of whom have been retained. They've also lost their keeper, which accounts for another 40 odd league starts.

They needed quite a few additions just to be as good as last season. It's not like they've broken up their promotion team by bringing in new players; their promotion team was broken up before anyone was signed.

Yes, some truth in that, but then with the number of signings they've made, another 3 or 4 lads that got them promoted will also drop out.
