it is an important role in a team where the CBs have license to get forward, you need someone with the right quality to sit and hold, that isn't Howson. They ran past Howson so easily for that corner for the equaliser

Howson can't be blamed, he was never a natural fit for the role...

Well, that would be absolutely lovely, yes.

I’m not trying to have a pop at you. It’s only that I don’t think Morsy was good enough, an I definitely don’t think he’s the best we could do. If he was, he would still be here.

He's an attacking midfielder & has never been played in that role....
Although yeah, he's also been outstanding when played in defence, we oughtta put him back in there, coz he ain't a holding midfielder in a million yrs....

It’s a shame if we do, and can’t get goals out of the players we’ve got because on paper the options and quality we’ve got up front now is probably the best we’ve had since Bamford / Tomlin / Vossen season.

Sporar is class and a big signing for us. Watmore’s intelligent, works so hard and scores goals. Uche gets some criticism but he is a decent budget battering ram and we haven’t had that type for years, I’d rather have that option on the bench than not. Coburn’s so young but does seem to have the goalscoring knack. We’ve got talented wide players in Jones and Hernandez. It’s far better than Britt & Fletcher.

I don’t disagree but it’s depressing to think we might need to bring in another £8m striker on top of the £8m striker we just brought in from Sporting Lisbon to address the lack of cutting edge. I’d hope we can fix that problem by fixing things elsewhere.
 
Our transfer business in the summer was good; we just needed a decent keeper and defensive mid bringing in.

If we'd signed a decent keeper and defensive mid and gone with the team below, and had a manager who wanted us to play football, then I think we'd be having a good season.

It's frustrating because we had the makings of a good team, but we're never going to see this under Wilder because he prefers a different system. It's going to be another rebuilding job, which means yet again we're going to have to be patient.

Jones? He’s still dining out on the few early games this season.
 
Who ever we bring in will be worse than the player they replace, because thats all thats happened for the last few seasons. When was the last time we brought someone in who was an improvement on the player they replaced.

All we seem to bring in in january are loan/out of contract players who havent played for 6 months.

Just seems to be an ever increasing downward spiral.

If these guys are so good then why have Boro only scored 21 goals in 19 games? Of those 21 goals McNair has scored 3 and assisted 2. Getting towards the half way point of the season and still no sign of any team gelling.

I hope Wilder has it in him to get rid of some of the deadwood because there's no prospect of success with Tavernier, Watmore, Ikpeazu, Hernandez and a few others starting week after week. Payero, Sporar and Jones need to prove they can do something.

There isn't a single player that shouldn't be sold if there's a realistic bid for them.

Probably this it seems we look forward to every transfer window and manage to get progressively worse from it. Promotion is way off with this lot might as well send the loan players back. Get Spence back and look at it for next year.

Bamba and Peltier in place of Fry and Dijksteel (god knows what state we would have been in had Warnock brought them in)

Jones getting his starts courtesy of Ameobi and Coburn getting games too as we are still a striker down on where we should be.

Jones needs to learn to put a ball in the box. No good just running into the fullback. Hernandez came on as Sub on Saturday and done more in 10 mins than jones. Last night Hernandez came on and he basically played up top.

Fully agree, shift out some players who offer nothing like Howson, strengthen the centre of the park, thats where we lose it every game.
