January business has cost us

The strikers we brought in for decent money have not brought the goals, but most importantly we didn’t address our weakest link which pretty much every Boro fan would have told you was Joe Lumley.

You can spend as much money as you like on players higher up the pitch, but if your keeper is making some sort of error in every single game then it’s a waste of time.

The bloke is a total liability, and it was obvious from the moment we signed him.

So, not the January business, the summer business.. not seen the goal yet though as a club our keeper expectations are high because of the quality we've had over the years.. very, very few poor keepers have lasted long..

To be fair Wilder said we wanted more experienced forwards in Jan.

Yet not possible for various 'reasons'. I'm guessing financial. These two lads are on good money for age. Yet probably not much in the grand scheme of things with only a percentage paid.

The keeper is a strange one. He had already cost us points pre Jan. I'm guessing we can't justify having 3 keepers then bringing in another.

At least they're just loans.
Not like the financial damage Brewster and McBurnie have done to Sheff Utd.
Please God - let's get it right next time.

I'd like to think we can all learn from experience.
Wilder probably happy to have a DoF in place given the poor recruitment decisions that led to the end of his previous job.

Wilder, the DoF & Gibson now all have recent experience of selecting particularly poor strikers.
Is it the strikers - is it the service????
Perhaps they can get their heads together with a plan that will prevent them making similar mistakes again.
We live in hope.

Needed a decent striker bringing in, GK and a RWB as cover for Jones.

I said at the time that we would be in trouble if Jones gets injured/ill. Tav wasn't the answer in that role today and Peltier certainly wasn't vs Fulham.

All Wilders signings have been poor so far really. Mcgree today was terrible it has to be said. Do we really trust him to spend the Spence war chest

What strikers were overlooked in Jan? That is, went on loan to Championship clubs and are doing well.

Said it numerous times that Lumley will cost us the playoffs and it’s happening almost every single week now. Not sure how a recruitment and management team of football experts couldn’t see he wasn’t good enough, he’s been awful 90% of the games he’s played yet we decided to ignore it and spend the money elsewhere

Even more frustrating that keepers like Woodman were available, if we had signed him we would comfortably be in the top 6 now

At the moment Woodman is a terrible keeper we would be in a Way worse position if he’d come in during January. He may eventually be good
enough but he’s not at the moment.

I said it after watching Connolly the first couple of times that if was to be a regular starter we would struggle to make the playoffs. Balogun and Connolly haven't improved the team at all. Thought it was interesting that wilder practically dug the hole team out but refused to criticise his undynamic duo up front after the game.

Ikpeazu has got 3 in 10 for Cardiff. We should have tried to get him in!

It's 3 in 11 now.
Or 1 in the last 9, 0 in the last 5 and he's started every single match on the bench too.
There's a reason for that.

Connolly and Balogun are looking to be dud signings, but they've managed 2 and 3 in 14 respectively.
Poor returns, but not massively different to what Ikpeazu has achieved in the same time frame.

Ikpeazu had went 17 games without scoring in the league for us too.

If you're just wanting a striker to come off the bench, we already have Coburn for that, who is younger and quicker.

Lets be honest, given the same game time, who would you back to score more? Uche or Connelly?

First half today there was 2 or 3 crosses from the left AC made good runs for but the poor guys just not big enough to get on the end of them.

Balogun has some talent, I believe In time he can learn to exploit this. Be realistic these 2 boys are 20 year old vs seasoned champo players. Connolly makes himself a nuance bit he needs to make sure he his the target.
