James McClean Abuse

How do you feel about it?

I’m very uncomfortable with it and the majority of the people giving it see him as an IRA supporter judging from the songs the south stand sang yesterday.

The guy is from Derry, his family and friends have been directly effected by some of the sickening things the UK government have done in that area, hence he feels it would be a betrayal of his local area to wear a poppy.

Fair enough, up to him. Some see it disrespectful to us in the UK, again, fair enough. Some see it as him being an IRA supporter, and it’s this uneducated ludicrous opinion that causes the booing and abuse I’d say. Anyway, I don’t like it and didn’t like it yesterday.

Some of the people in the South stand are the worst of our fans. Some booed when Steffens name was read out before kick off. WTF?

Maybe. Does it justify it though?
I mean I didn't say it does. I'm in the North Stand so didn't hear anything from the South Stand.

There were a few shouts of "fvck off you Mackem ba$tard" but that's to be expected I would say.

To be fair he seemed to have a wry smile on his face and to be enjoying being the pantomime villain while he took a few corners on the SW corner.

He's popped off in the media and on social media plenty of times giving his views on the English and the British armed forces. He can't expect that he won't be getting fans who are predominately English with a level of pride in the British military giving him a bit back, played for a local rival too.

He's just a pantomime villain to opposition supporters now, most won't be able to tell you what it is that he's actually said or tried to say in the past, they just boo.

If he had a bit more going on upstairs he might actually be able to educate some people and present his side of the story, but even then I doubt many media outlets would be bothered now that he's plodding about in the lower reaches of the Championship.

Don't mind his view on not wearing a poppy, I think it's fair enough, the abuse he receives over it is massively overboard and embarassing to see.

But there are always a load of divvies at the matches across the country.

Ashley Fletcher got abused and booed when he came on, which I thought was strange, just because he left when his contract ran out.

Apparently abuse is fine as long as it isn't aimed at our fans, particularly by some of the Mackems following.
If you read the thread then you’ll find most people aren’t saying that at all.

If he was getting abused my a minority in the South it wasn’t laid enough to be audible to the North. You could hear a smattering of boos but that could easily be fit the Mackem ties.

I think most aren’t interested in the lad.

As for Fletcher, there was a smattering of boos and a ripple of applause. Not sure either were the appropriate response. Most kept quiet which seemed about right to me.

McClean was loudly booed whenever he went to take a corner, from both the north stand and the south stand.

Was he? I must have been oblivious to it. I did hear booing when he was on the ball but didn’t think it was that loud. I’ve heard louder.
