James Lea Siliki

Scott recommended him, Warnock then asked somebody he knew in France for a second opinion.

Both clearly misjudged.
You really have to see these players with your own eyes and not on the TV or ruddy YouTube... Obvs you have know what you are looking for...The top players are comfortable with both feet, passing, crossing, shooting etc

I'm going to stop there guys, not going to give away anymore 'secrets' 👍📖✍️

Oh the Barnsley 'performance'.... Talkabout trying to make the most of your chance 😂

Still not as bad as Kike Sola. I saw him for 45 mins and still not convinced he's a professional footballer lol. What made us sign him? Was he Karanka's mate lol?
He was a bizarre signing really. Came in at the same time as Rhodes and for some reason started ahead of Rhodes against Blackburn. He was absolutely terrible in that game. I checked his record on Wiki and he had a good spell at Osasuna as a B team player and into their first team - around 40 goals in roughly 150 appearances - but after joining Athletic Club in 2013 he only scored one more goal as a professional player(scored once for Athletic Club in five years). Had loans with us and Numancia. Retired at 32.

Strange to see how some careers eventually turn out.

Have to think the only reason was that it was a ‘Karanka’ signing and it the ‘Gibson Gift’ that Rhodes was, and he was sending a message.

I was a bit excited about us signing JLS tbf, knew nothing about him but his background made him sound positive. Even against Forest I thought he looks like he had ability, just not up to speed of game. Unfortunately it turned out that WAS his top speed lol.

Got to agree.
You know when people say "that was the worst performance I've ever seen" and the like, what is the criteria for that? Did Siliki just stop playing or putting the effort in? For me it's an important distinction because if a lad just isn't of the sufficient quality then I can accept that. Which is why I've never thought Lee Dong-Gook was anywhere near our worst player. He worked his knackers off, but just wanted good enough. The worst performances are those like Yakubu at Wigan, or about 95% of the games Gary O'Neil played the year we came down. An absolute charlatan.

Was a combination for everything for me, that Barnsley performance was outrageously bad he was just out of his depth in every way and he shouldn’t of been picked, it was a bad decision from Wilder.

Passing was a disgrace, reaction to giving the ball away was poor, barely moved past the half way line, no where near or fitness wise. It genuinely looked like a fan had won a competition.

Good old Gaston vs Bournemouth when he wanted his move.

I've never really thought of it that way. Always thought DGL was one of the poorest players I've seen (completely out of his depth). But I was brought up on Boro fans always supporting a player who gives 100% (not now) and am in agreement that Yakubu, Gaston (who I really liked) GON (can't believe he's a coach), and Kitson and Gestede (who seemed to hate mfc) turned in far worse performances.

All I can remember of Kike Sola was he was a very good looking chap, and while a few of those Spaniards didn't play too many games for us, I heard they were an integral part of the dressing room, as opposed to the more famous Spaniards who came in for the premiership season.

I think it might have been Siliki's first game where I was expecting a defensive midfielder and we conceded a goal where he watched from about 30 yards out as the whole thing happened and didn't make any effort to get back. Just stood and watched the whole thing. Soon as I saw that I said he's never going to make it in the championship. It was schoolboy level.

It would be impossible to be worse than Kike Sola’s debut. Looked like he had never played football in his life!

Yakubu at Wigan still gets me angry now: a true disgrace.

It was a poor decision to start Siliki at Barnsley. Should have started either Bamba or Peltier and moved McNair into midfield.

I remember Silikis' home debut - I couldn't work out what type of midfielder he was supposed to be. I remember he started the game playing in a deeper role but then seemed to be playing as a second striker. I don't think I've ever seen a Boro midfielder give the ball away as many times as be did that day.

There’s been lots worse than that at least he tried, he just wasn’t good enough.

Siliki was just so slow in his decision making, he’d lose the ball before he’d even decided what he was going to do with it. Championship was just way too fast for him.

There was no suggestion at all that Gestede hated MFC. He just wasn't very good, and was injured all the time

* Thank goodness hes gone!
Colonel blimp in a basket chair in Eastbourne could move quicker with the ball than he could.

James Lea-Siliki completes permanent move to Portugal side Estoril.

FORMER Middlesbrough midfielder James Lea-Siliki has left Rennes and completed a permanent move to Portuguese side Estoril.
The Primeria Liga side have completed a deal to bring the Cameroon midfielder across Europe on a three-year deal.
After joining on a season long loan deal from Rennes, Lea-Siliki struggled to break into the Boro side and made just 11 appearances in total.
The 26-year-old was told in January he would no longer be needed under Chris Wilder and was instructed to find a move elsewhere. However, he remained on Teesside until the end of the season after competing in the African Cup of Nations.
His last Boro appearance came in a 3-2 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell.
