James Cook

Theatre staff having to take people straight from ambulances to the theatres
Wards having to pull people from all over because there isn’t enough people to staff it
Taking 2 hours for staff members to get the drugs for patients because they don’t have the staff which hold the fingerprint passwords.

This is just one hospital

But make sure you’re doing your times tables until your 18

Had to take my mam in to JC over Christmas. She's previously had a stroke and was showing signs again. Have to say they were fantastic. You could tell how much pressure they were under - trying to scrape together beds, people in every corridor. But they were so good with my mam and got her seen, tested and back out in under 12 hours.

I posted this on another thread, but it is such a telling chart that I think it’s worth posting again -

I think what this shows is covid would have an effect on waiting times no matter who was in charge, just the nature of a pandemic

But the indelicate hit after 10 years of increases under this Tory government

What it also shows that if you invest in improving it you can. Look at what Labour did, but they took it as far as they could for whatever reason

The staff at James Cook are incredible. Their job is impossible, but they show up every shift and make a positive difference in people's lives.

Making teenagers do extra maths for a few years will not fix the mess the Tories have made. It's just a nonsense attempt to manipulate he press away from reporting the daily Tory doom show.

Reading on twitter some of the staff reports from NHS all over the UK is harrowing.

Mask wearing is been widely ridiculed at the moment too. Around 13% of beds are currently taken up by patients with Covid or Flu. Yet people will moan about the NHS but will not support being careful about social distancing and mask wearing again in situations that are higher risk.

Nah, just down to covid innit.

The NHS is a disaster at the minute and we all know why. It needs a root and branch reform, but how do you do that in the middle of a crisis that is spiralling out of control? Throwing more money at it is not a long term and sustainable solution. People are dying unnecessarily and something needs to change.

I'll echo the above, those who work at JCUH (and other hospitals), some of which are my family and friends, are doing an incredible and impossible job.

The hospitals need staff. Brexit scared staff off.

The contract situation has led to UK Drs moving abroad etc for far better pay.

We have a crumbling North Tees that should have been replaced 10 years ago. Hartlepool Hospital ran into the ground too. Utter shambles.

It is not just a question of root and branch reform, or additional funding.
It is BOTH.

Mervyn King is absolutely right when he said Britain needs to decide whether it wants low tax small state USA style, or higher tax bigger state like Western Europe.
It can't be low tax big state.

I am absolutely clear I want a welfare state to be proud of and state investment on capital infrastructure.
This drivel that our tax burden is at an all time high is shocking. We still have significantly lower tax burden across all taxes and duties than any major European country.
People need to be prepared to fund what they claim to want.
But higher tax alone won't be enough, there needs to be re-distribution of existing wealth.
The root and branch reform of Health and Social Care, Energy policy, Housing policy, Environmental/Climate approach, Education all need long term political cooperation and commitment, not the pitiful party posturing we get now.

I saw for myself in Darlington Memorial A&E across 17 hours into New Years Eve the utter chaos our wonderful medical teams have to work under, the despair and exhaustion they feel. It is so much more critical than many people realise. I hope you don't have to see it for yourselves.

12 years of Tory rule is the one and only reason the NHS and every other public service is in a terrible state.

Just look at the Criminal Justice System as another example. There is only one reason for that too.

Cousin is a sister there. She's in absolute despair it the state of it. It's been like it for years. Mam was a nurse there, she got out before it all went awry.

Government interference aside all the chartered accountants, management consultants etc on the Trusts boards don't help either.
