Jacob Rees-Mogg

Just watching Sky News, and I know it is common knowledge, but what a horrible, privileged MP. Should be nowhere near the cabinet of this country. Acts like he is part of the monarchy🙄
He is one of those who you can’t quite understand how he gets away with it, must appeal to those who think a posh accent equals intelligence and wisdom.

You need to ask the people of North Somerset what they see in him. Last election he got double the amount of votes of the runner up. Certainly the voters there live in a different world to me.

In any 'normal'Conservative government he'd be an 'eccentric' back-bencher. While we technically vote for individual MPs, when it comes to a general election most of us vote for the party we want to form a government and that is why people like these get elected. In 'normal' times that's not a problem (assuming having a Tory government isn't a problem per se which is another argument) as there are enough sensibles to form a front bench. But Johnson either purged or sidelined the sensibles leaving only the nutters and intellectually-challenged to form the cabinet from. This is where we are. And I said that without mentioning B*****, blot.

Rees-Mogg is a caricature of a Tory. It's hard to believe people like him exist. He wouldn't have a chance in a genuine election but a 2 party first past the post situation gives him the opportunity. Super-safe seat that will vote for whatever they choose to stand in the conservative box on the ballot paper. He is everything that is wrong with our election system. He's not the only one of course, there are hundreds of safe seats for all parties and they don't have to be good or accountable for anything.

It's a terrible system to be allowed to make decisions that seriously affect people's lives.

Time for PR.

Rees-Mogg is the worst of a very bad bunch and that is saying something when Dorris is also a Minister. The people of England really should hang their heads in shame for voting in this lot.

Said it before but Rees Mogg is a deliberately planted stooge in the Cabinet to distract and draw attention from others. Whether this eventually works medium to long term I very much doubt but he certainly has attracted the major ire. He’s an irrelevant MP really and as he is stinking rich owning off shore hedge funds that have made millions from Brexit - he doesn’t care one iota.

If the people of England and Wales had not had their hands tied behind their backs by a leader who was stupid maybe they would not need to be ashamed. We, Labour scored 10 own goals, we gave away a government.

I would imagine that if we had PR (I'm not arguing for or against here) that the people at the top of the party lists would be the same people who get given safe seats.

No doubt that you are correct. I'm not sure that PR is the best method if it's just a replacement to elect our MPs. I think it needs splitting into 2 different things. PR should be used for the government we want but the people that represent us locally should be different. I don't even think local representatives should be political. They should just be jobs (and full time jobs). Why does the political ideology matter to local decision making? Like councils who are allocated funds and it is their job to spend it. We don't elect our hospital leaders etc so why do we elect our councils and our MPs for local work? I'd rather someone good and with the appropriate qualifications did the job than some shiny faced political attention-whore. I'd rather have a Tory do a job well than a useless Labour MP but I also don't want to vote for them if that gives them license to make decisions on a national level that I am politically opposed to.

I'm not going to pretend I have all of the answers but I know there is a lot about the current system that simply doesn't work for the majority of people.
