Jacob Greaves

I don’t think McNair at LCB is that bad. He’s been on of our best players for 2 seasons playing there. I’d rather we spent the cash on centre forwards than pay over the odds for Greaves. Wait for the right deal to come along.
McNair is fine at LCB. I sort of understand the desire to have a left footer there, but its shouldn’t be the only attribute for that position.

We are prepared to pay 5M on a defender probably will pay 7M
But the money needs to be spent on a striker
I don’t get it
This is true. It’s far easier to stop goals going in than score them. Our main problem for a long time now has been scoring enough goals. Paddy is more than good enough to fill the LCB role. It would be great to have enough money to splash about to get someone like Greaves but the fact is we can’t have everything. Our main deal should be on a proper goal scorer, and let’s not forget we need to replace Tav as well

No need to spend fortunes on a champo centre back. Just need someone steady and strong. I liked that helik lad at barnsley. Think he would be good in our team

If we are looking to spend money on this guy and have bid 5 million when everybody knows we need strikers and midfielders….then we have money to spend ( no **** Sherlock…)
Either that or the management are completely stupid and are spending all our money on defenders, while forgetting that we need strikers.
They aren’t stupid.
I think we can relax safe in the knowledge that we have some pennies to spend.

It wouldn't be disastrous but I do still hope we try and get a left-footer in before the deadline. We certainty need at least one more defender.

Again, we wouldn’t be handing over £5m in a duffle bag. If Greaves signed a four-year contract we’d be spending £1.25m a year in each of the next three years. Plus wages, which are presumably offset by the huge clearing of the decks that’s happened since May. We can afford to buy Greaves AND a top quality striker plus whatever else we need.

It looks and feels like the money is there to really strengthen, across the board. It’s when Coventry, for example, want to £20m/£25m for Gyokeres. That’s when you think we can’t do the business on that one. But it does *feel* like the club has the money to do some real business in the next month or so.

I wish people would stop going on about Gyokeres - there is not a chance he will be coming to Boro at the figures it would cost to get him here
And I wish people would stop making out we can't afford him, or shouldn't try and structure a deal for him.

Depends what you mean by afford. We probably could just about her the money together for him, but would have nothing left for anyone else - doesn’t seem very sensible to me

Lenihan was one of the top performers in the league last season. as for Saturday he made some mistakes, but didn't have a stinker. He won more headers than anyone else in the championship on Saturday. I think he was a bit too eager to prove himself and playing against one of the play off favourites, in fact could be dark horses for auto promotion. They have some excellent players particularly in the attacking third.
I was joking about having a stinker in that I'd seen 2 different mistakes. 4 is quite a lot in 1 half of football.
