Jacinda Ardern - Resigns

Interestingly enough NZBoro, my sister ended up in New Zealand when her husband was made redundant from the RAF and he was offered a position in the NZ Air Force. They moved there about 2005. My brotehr in-law was a survival expert teaching pilots to survive when shot down behind enemy lines. He now runs a weekend survival course for corporate types. They both love it, but **** me off when the all blacks play England and they support there adopted nation. All of a sudden "soccer players" are all fannies and the UK is a dump, both clearly not true.

My nephew is in the NZ airforce based in Ohakea near Wanganui. Possibly knew your brother in law Laughing depending on where he was based.

Sound a right pair of fannies!

Only joking!

He was based in Blenhiem Cardiff, my sister taught pilots aero-something or other in Blenhiem also, so if your nephew ever attended the base there, then probably they would have met. Not sure of my brother-in-laws rank and my sister was a civvie instructor.

Off topic but just been watching the Crusaders v the Blues. It’s really weird watching live sports with full crowds at the moment

I can't get my head around people like that. How can anybody support a country other than the one you were born in.
I've lived in Oz for my entire working life and put up with decades of pom bashing ( all in good fun mind ) but once a pom,
always a pom as far as I'm concerned.
In fact, I love nothing more, to see, absolutely anybody, beat the Aussies, at anything, even tiddlywinks. Loved going to work to rub it in whenever that happened.

It depends, when I lived in Spain I had a soft spot for all things Spanish, not above England of course but I did want to see them do well. Even when I moved back I still kept an eye out for them, and in their case "doing well" was winning the world cup which I enjoyed immensely.

I mean, the first part he has a point, especially when compared to rugby players. The second part, not true yet but just wait until Cummings has spent all of the public purse on his mates vanity projects, and brexit kicks in. Assuming we all survive the mishandling of coronavirus that is

I can understand that, makes good sense.
But unlike me, you probably weren't the laughing stock at work like I was, regarding either the Boro or England.

I started to go to rugby league games over here because that's all my friends over here were into.
I started to follow the Eastern suburbs roosters and still do. But, even if the entire rooster squad represented the Ozzies right now,
I'd want England to smash em. Or anybody for that matter.

It would appear that I was guilty of taking at face value the pro life post above. It seems that this is NZ coming in line with most other Western nations.
Contrary to an earlier post (Cardiff I think) I am not anti NZ at all; far from it. Their qualities as a nation were beautifully demonstrated by the dignity of Williamson and his team on the ultimate cricket disappointment last year. Cardiff was right however in saying there was an element of confirmation bias on my behalf; bang to rights.
Have been all over Australia and will get to NZ when I can convince myself to fly over Aus which I find impossible to do.
I still reserve the right to dislike their prime minister and think if she were chocolate she would eat herself (low sugar only of course)

Is it worth coming over for a cycle-touring trip to NZ?
Certainly looks it from what I`ve gathered.
Is it anything like Eire - beautiful green scenery, mountains, wind-swept beaches......?

There's some great cycle trails in the south island, the otago rail trail, and the alps to ocean (which runs past the end of my road, you can stay at my place if you do it!) runs from Mt Cook to Oamaru. Just to name two.

Have to hold my hands up here, but I do follow the AB's now over everybody. Not a concious decision, but it just feels right somehow. It didn't happen immediately, more like over 6/7 years after being here. Guess it's like the cricket test!

Yeah to be fair, there’s no great rivalry between us and Spain. At that time they were far ahead of us at football and, any other sport that interested me, we were far ahead of them. Although they are a decent second tier rugby side and would be doing better if the Spanish rugby federation didn’t go bust in 2009.
I think, with cricket and both rugbies and (for the missus) netball. I couldn’t cope with the rivalry if I went to Oz. We are pretty much on the same level in each of the sports above! In fact I know this from watching an England V all blacks match from Singapore cricket club a few years ago. Half the bar were ex pats and half were antipodeans. The Aussies took it upon themselves to support their neighbours for once and it was irritating. It was the match we had a would have been game winning try rules out in the dying seconds and fighting nearly broke out.

Well, as I doubt you take much notice of the day to day politics in New Zealand, what is it about her calm, intelligent, sensible responses to a terrorist attack, a volcano eruption and a global pandemic that you don't like?

After more reading it seems I was quick to judge.

Abortion still doesn't sit right with me, just personal preference. Obviously of the pregnancy is a result of rape or could kill the mother then it's fair.
