As somebody who works in business in NZ I can tell you she’s leaving an absolutely shocking mess. She’s a fake and a fraud, she’s very skilled at communicating and her displays of “empathy” are purely for the perception she wants paint for the global audience .
She’s jumping ship now because she knows she faces a significant defeat in 9 months time.
She has failed on every metric she campaigned on, housing, the health system, child poverty, the economy, infrastructure development etc.
Next step the UN, it always was her plan.
Good riddance!

A National voter I guess? If you think she was faux then wait til we get Luxon. Have never seen a more smarmy, arrogant and out of touch politician as he. Poundshop Johnson and that is saying something.

I can't comment on her delivery of policies given I'm not a kiwi. I can see she's failed on a lot of promises. Obviously significant mitigating circumstances but that doesn't mean she couldn't have done better I suppose. I honestly don't know.

But if her empathy is fake she must be an incredible actress. Next stop Hollywood?

Or I suppose it's possible that because she's made decisions they don't like, some will just criticise her for anything and see what they want to see. Because sadly that's how too many people's minds work.

Just like those who think Boris was a good bloke trying his best.
 
What I can see is a torrent of quotes from leaders around the world who have unmitigated praise but the one that hit home for me is this one from the Maori Party leader in New Zealand.


"Ardern had smashed down glass ceilings, facing incredible levels of misogyny in the process, I also will also acknowledge the extreme hate and misogynistic crap that was not only directed at her, but her family.

“So I can certainly mihi to the sacrifice that her family and herself had to make in her taking on this role,"
 
I was amazed in the middle of UK lockdown when we were wasting billions on PPE that was not used, Nightingale hospitals that were not used, track and trace than was not very effective, and there was New Zealand with packed Rugby grounds. I remember Ardern speaking beofre one match and saying something like 7 people in NZ have Covid. Here we think it was over a million at the same time.

Were Kiwis immune? Did the NZ Govt manage Covid much better? Did thousands later die in NZ? I don't know but would be interested to know.

Would that be the Drakeford that waited until England moved and then did something very slightly different and waited for the plaudits.
A little easier also, when your population is les than 10% of England’s.
 
As far as metrics go yes you could say they failed on ‘promises’, or rather manifesto aims, but this current government have built more new state houses than any other government in the last 20 years.

As said before by others she has faced tremendous mysogeny throughout her time here. I live in a rural area and know that she is not that well liked in certain rural areas by certain people, mostly true blue who are dissspounted that they haven’t been able to just get o and do without having to abide by rules.

I also know a lot of National voters and not many of the trust ‘I used to run an airline’ Luxon. Back to the lower taxes, less investment in public services etc when National get in. Still, if you don’t need to use a hospital, live in a state house or welfare then you’ll be sweet.

As for small businesses I to work in one and we have gone from strength to strength. I understand the frustration with lockdowns, but she made her decision and stuck with it and a lot of lives were saved because of it- money over lives is a pertinent argument I guess.

Anyways rant over. Sorry to see her go but it gives her replacement a good run, and her reasons for leaving although I beleive are truthful will no doubt be thought otherwise.
