Izzy Jones

Even by this board's standards - I don't think I've read this much shxt for quite some time. We even have amateur psychological diagnosis..... Linking mental health to perceived loss of form and questions of professionalism....Just STFU..... What gives you the right?

None of us know Jones and we don't see how he engages on a daily basis with his colleagues and the club. I would suggest - he engages well, otherwise he'd be out of the match day squad.

All of the comments about MH and professionalism - conjecture and personal opinion with no basis ..... Other than an apparent loss of form ....

On the context of that point - he's not the only one who has been inconsistent this season.

And...... So called fans should look at the opening post.......a thumbs up for Jones being generous..... Which has been flipped to negative diatribe.....

Some people should hang their head in shame really! We should be supporting our players! He's a young man who has done remarkably well making a transition from non league to the Championship, and some fans want him back at Tooting..... Unbelievably crass!
Stop taking it so seriously, it’s just footy and people discussing a player. Can’t imagine getting wound up like you seem to be from your first paragraph because some people don’t think a player is as good as I think he is!
Sorry to Block21 for contributing to derailing the point of the thread.

Just didn't need to be said here that's the point. Hardly crime of the century but just think it's a bit typical of our fans to try and find a negative asap

I did think twice about posting but as some had already started it I wrongly chose to. Apologies my friend.

He looked so so so poor when he came on against Norwich.

Not as bad v Coventy but still nowhere near the levels i've seen him in the past.

He's one of those "when he's bad he's REALLY bad" players in my opinion.

I hope he comes good again but I have a feeling the performances of Doak have completely knocked his confidence. He doesn't seem to respond well to competition for his place unfortunately.

He seems like a lovely guy, and on his day he can be almost unplayable in this league, so i hope he can pick up. And if he's going through any further mental health issues i wish him all the very best.

I like Jones, always have. On his day, he’s a very good player in this league.
- I am starting to doubt his professionalism and drive.

His interviews were telling. It was good to see him discussing his mental health challenges and the fact he was coming through it. However, they also showed immaturity and a lack of hunger to make the most of his talents. He seems to struggle outside of London and also to dedicate himself to his trade.

This translates to the plateau I’ve seen him hit on the pitch. Inconsistency is rarely physical. It’s a mental burden. The top players are cerebral machines that make the most of every minute of their week and track every calorie.

For Jones, I think he suffers from a working class, deeply buried self esteem/imposter syndrome issue. He wants to be the best footballer at some party in London as opposed to being the best on a Saturday.

Hope I’m wrong as I like him…but I think he’ll move to a club like QPR, Millwall, Watford for a few years before ending up at Leyton Orient.
Eh?

He's moved up here and forged a successful career as a Championship footballer over a number of seasons now. How this translates to non-dedication I have no idea.

It is really, hammering a positive thread about one of our players that was nothing to do with football turning it into football.
There is always a danger that on a forum about Middlesbrough Football Club, on a post about a Middlesbrough Footballer - that it might turn to football.

Providing things are respectful there really shouldn’t be an issue with it. People are free to opinions and to express them. You don’t get to define the scope of conversation, regardless of how much you dislike it.

Overall, I think we are overplaying the poor form stuff. Yeah he wasn't great v Norwich but came on in the end at a very difficult time. He had a bad 10 mins v Coventry (not alone) but improved when we went down to 10. Prior to that he's made good impact as a sub (West Brom?) and won a couple of crucial penalties earlier in the season (which some people bizarrely continue to give him no credit for).

Carrick obviously still sees enough to play him v Coventry (we had other options) and with his comments about managing Doak's minutes I'd expect him to continue to be involved this season.

I didn’t say no dedication but I do feel it’s relatively lower than peers. Happens a lot with a physically good player, that doesn’t develop as expected, that they lack consistency, which is largely a mental barrier.

The best players, especially in the modern day, are some of the most dedicated in the world. I think Jones’ ceiling has come because of his approach I saw in his interviews. We see a player laughing at meeting a new manager and missing training to go to a party with his mates.

I have no doubt he wants it. But not sure he REALLY wants it. I want him to get there with us but am starting to believe he has peaked and would like to be closer to friends and family in London. We’ve seen these things happen ofter enough that this shouldn’t be a radical idea.

Hope he proves me wrong and goes on to play top Champ and, perhaps, Prem.

Jones has done much better than I did forging a very good career in football. Wish I had half his skill and determination.

Utterly laughable that a player has a couple of below-par substitute appearances and is being written off and his fundamental fitness to be a professional called into question.

He's already made important contributions for us this season, and he will make more. If we didn't have the luxury of PL player on loan of the obvious calibre of Doak, I'd be happy with him starting for us every week, and he'd still be one of the better RWs in the Championship.

Very nice gesture from him.

The players probably see Yusuf more than some of their family to be fair 😂
I think I do, hahah.

I love Jones, he's out of form but he's been a brilliant player for us and a big part in some great memories.

If people want to criticise Jones for his ability and/or effort, they absolutely have that right. That’s why there have been about a million identical threads about this over the last couple of years.

Don’t do it though on a thread created to highlight a really nice gesture he made. Top bloke, whatever people think about what’s happening on the pitch.
