Izzy Jones

I said he was a nice lad how is that mean spirited? If we want to go up Izzy won't be one of the players responsible. He has all the pace in the world...but his decision making is something that will cost him a place in the team.
‘Will be back in Tooting by next season.’

This one

I can’t understand why Carrick is still playing him when he’s so hugely out of sorts. I don’t think it’s doing him (or the team) any good at all.
He hasn't been starting games? Only when Doak was missing he played.

I like the lad and he is a quality player. It is obvious that his confidence is shot to pieces and I wonder if it would worth keeping him away from the first team for a while. But then how does he et the confidence back?
So far, he does not have the consistency to play at our level. It is that simple. He has mental problems and a lot of us can empathise with that.

Lets be honest: being an elite athlete, even a championship footballer, comes with immense pressure and a constant expectation. That is part of the job. Some are not suited to live under that strain.

I like Jones, always have. On his day, he’s a very good player in this league.
- I am starting to doubt his professionalism and drive.

His interviews were telling. It was good to see him discussing his mental health challenges and the fact he was coming through it. However, they also showed immaturity and a lack of hunger to make the most of his talents. He seems to struggle outside of London and also to dedicate himself to his trade.

This translates to the plateau I’ve seen him hit on the pitch. Inconsistency is rarely physical. It’s a mental burden. The top players are cerebral machines that make the most of every minute of their week and track every calorie.

For Jones, I think he suffers from a working class, deeply buried self esteem/imposter syndrome issue. He wants to be the best footballer at some party in London as opposed to being the best on a Saturday.

Hope I’m wrong as I like him…but I think he’ll move to a club like QPR, Millwall, Watford for a few years before ending up at Leyton Orient.

I have always held a particular view on Jones but since his mental health statement I have tried, perhaps not always successfully, to restrict my comments on him to match day threads. I do think Doak’s arrival has dented significantly Jones’s already fragile confidence which most balanced people would agree has been played out in his recent substitute appearances / starts for the club.

So what do you think about his gesture to yusuf?
I didn’t mention that in my post above and should have.

It’s a great gesture. I think he’s a nice lad. From where I sit and drink after the match, I see the players spending time with fans and taking pictures, signing autographs, etc.
Jones has always been there and makes time for every kid that wants to meet him.

Hopefully it might spur other players on to take a turn to help out travelling fans - they may have already.

Always looked a better player alongside Crooks, Izzy misses someone making late runs into the box, who is also a good header of the ball.

He’s featured in the majority of our games this season either from the bench or starting.
And done absolutely nothing in any of them

Lovely lad to be sure, done well to make the most of his abilities and take his chance considering he was at Tooting only a few years ago, and I really wish him well but he's not championship level and never will be .... and as for "one of the best wingers in the league" that's just plain ridiculous

Even by this board's standards - I don't think I've read this much shxt for quite some time. We even have amateur psychological diagnosis..... Linking mental health to perceived loss of form and questions of professionalism....Just STFU..... What gives you the right?

None of us know Jones and we don't see how he engages on a daily basis with his colleagues and the club. I would suggest - he engages well, otherwise he'd be out of the match day squad.

All of the comments about MH and professionalism - conjecture and personal opinion with no basis ..... Other than an apparent loss of form ....

On the context of that point - he's not the only one who has been inconsistent this season.

And...... So called fans should look at the opening post.......a thumbs up for Jones being generous..... Which has been flipped to negative diatribe.....

Some people should hang their head in shame really! We should be supporting our players! He's a young man who has done remarkably well making a transition from non league to the Championship, and some fans want him back at Tooting..... Unbelievably crass!

Wow, just wow.

Is there nothing our "fans" dont know about ? Amateur psychological diagnosis based on a few interviews. What next, if I show you a photo of my car can you diagnosis the problem with it ?

Did you watch the interview with him?
He was brave to bear all but that also showed his approach to the game.

Some huge red flags in there.

Also, I think my post fairly balanced and the ideal outcome is Jones comes good.
