We need to move to 4-3-3

We are **** weak in the middle as a 2.5ish free flowing flambeau.

The defence we can't do f and all about apart from giving them and extra man as support.

Howson Barlaser Hackney...

Howson sitting deeper Barlaser and Hackney as the link. Rogers on the wing or bench whichever.

And for crying out loud buy a RB or loan one or free agent one.

Then slowly coast up the league. 4-2-3-1 is killing us at the moment, we aren't confident enough for it.

Starve teams of the ball.

We don't play 4-2-3-1 as we adopt a fluid style of play so at any given stage of transition we can look like a 3-5-2, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 or whatever

How is a 4-2-3-1 any different ot a 4-3-3 if the number 10 drops back into a midfeld position which is usually the case out of possesion

For all intents and purposes we are already playing a 4-3-3

The two worked last season as Akpom spent as much time in between howson and Hackney making it a 3 as he did up front.

Instead of having him in the team sorting out the issue we have a nice healthy bank balance and some bargain bucket players in the team pi$$ing in the wind and watching the opposition stroll through our midfield like it isn’t there!

It's really going to depend on who we bring in before the window closes (if we do bring anyone in).

Would love for us to sign a DM and no 10.

But we aren't adopting the players and or philosophy of a 4-3-3

You can't suggest that Rogers is part of a 4-3-3 it's the definition of swapping the 10 for a sit back and help out position.
Howson is the best bet for that out of a poor selection.

We're a definite soft touch at the moment.

That starting 11 may be in the top half of the table technically as individuals, but in terms of physical attributes of pace/power/size/ physicality ( and niggleness ) .. we have to bottom six.

Completey agree and you can add to that lack of championship experience as well.

Has Carrick played any other formation that 4-2-3-1? All his subs are like for like?
We play a very fluid formation. It's never a straight 4-2-3-1 all the way through the games. It's sometimes a 4-4-2 with Rogers moving forward as a second striker, sometimes a 4-3-3 with one of the 3 dropping back into midfield, sometimes a 3-5-2 with Smith moving across into the defence and Engel pushing into a wide midfield position. It's less about the formation and more about the role the players play during each passage of play.

We were a sack of bo!!ocks last year under Wilder until Carrick brought stability by going 442. Need that platform again to start rebuilding clean sheets and confidence.

That fluidity is currently conceding goals at a rate of 2:1 ...
That level of complexity is not working , and with a level of inexperience this year , that wasn't present last year

We need out best 11 players out there.. and I don’t think we’ve seen it.

Time for Woodgate to speak up imo

We haven't lost much experience. Theres only Chuba Akpom who has gone from last seasons side who was a more experienced player than the one in his position now. We're just going to have to see who comes in in the last few days of the window. And see what they do to plug the leak next weekend.

I'm more concerned than I was a few weeks ago. But clearly there is a bigger picture here. And ripping up the playbook might not be a good idea in the long run.

Forss, mcgree and Jones have more experience of playing either with the current squad/ or this league than Silvera and Morgan..

Who you play with, and the league your playing in, matter.. esp when you are brand new to either.

Personally.. I'd give the new kids a bit of a rest ( other than Engel and ELL as we've little option )

We look niave in championship standards ..
A Sol Bamba type would do us the world of good

Silvera was a real menace today and was probably the best player until he went off. He assisted the first goal and really can't be blamed for how the game went after the red card. I certainly wouldn't drop him now. We really didn't struggle going forward until the red card. The issues are in defence, and we're finding the same problems that Warnock found the season before last and Wilder found last season - we someone capable of breaking up the play when we're on the back foot. You only really notice that when you're not controlling games. We could also do with making sure that we only send one full back forward when we're on the attack.

But I don't see the any issues with the of experience moving forward. It's only really a physical presence that we're lacking, someone who can win the ball and hold it up. The problems are defensively, where we're just as experienced as last season, the only change we have is Engel in for Giles. A slight change in terms of Championship experience, but not the reason we're struggling.

I'd say we need player who can break up the play to compete with Howson, or come in for games where we will be hit on the counter attack or outmuscled. And a player who can play in either the number 10/9 role who is a bit more physical, but technical enough to be able to hold the ball up and link play. I know they're two difficult players to find, but if we get both of those, we'll be fine. I still think a right back would be useful, but I don't think that's going to be happening now Smith is back.
