What's everyone's favourite year and/or album(s) from this decade ?

1980 was THE year for me, I was into heavy rock at the time and was spoilt.
Back in Black - AC/DC
Permanent Waves - Rush
Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath
Ace of Spades - Motorhead
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Blizzard of Ozz - Ozzy Osbourne
British Steel - Judas Priest

That's where all my paper round/birthday/Christmas money went :)

Once again the OP has set an almost impossible task but here is a brief cross section to what I was listening to in the 80's. Apologies to the hundreds of artists that I cannot think about at this moment in timed.

Neil Young - Freedom
Bob Dylan - Oh Mercy
Billy Bragg - Life's A Riot With Spy Vs Spy...........................and all his other stuff since
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love

Sticking just to the year 1980 my album picks would be

Peter Gabriel 3 - Peter Gabriel
The Correct Use of Soap - Magazine
The River - Bruce Springsteen
Sandinista! - The Clash
I just can't stop it - The Beat

Can’t imagine a lot of the best selling albums of the 80s topping the personal poll of many on here.

The 80's was when I diversified from heavy rock and got into Frank Zappa and then all sorts of other music, I reckon the pick of the main 2 bands I followed were:

Talking Heads with Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues
REM with Murmur, Document and Lifes Rich Pageant
A massive amount of other great music of all kinds, it rivals the 70's I reckon.

1984, year of my birth 😎

Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Manilla Road - Open the Gates
Queensryche - The Warning
Anthrax - Fistful of Metal
Bathory - Bathory
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales

1981 for me, the first year I started buying albums:

The Human League - "Dare"
Duran Duran - "Duran Duran"
Toyah - "Anthem"
Adam & The Ants - "Kings Of The Wild Frontier" (ok, released right at the end of 1980 but I'm claiming it!)
Soft Cell - "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret"
OMD - "Architecture & Morality"
Heaven 17 - "Penthouse & Pavement"
The Cure - "Faith"
Depeche Mode - "Speak & Spell"
U2 - "October"
Echo & The Bunnymen - "Heaven Up Here"
New Order - "Movement"
Spandau Ballet - "Journeys To Glory"
Tom Tom Club - "Tom Tom Club"
The Teardrop Explodes - "Wilder" (wonderfully under-rated album)
Altered Images - "Happy Birthday"
Visage - "Visage"
Bow Wow Wow - "See Jungle....."
Ultravox - "Rage In Eden"
