Israeli hostages taken in Gaza

Turkey and Pakistan getting involved & the Palestinian Authority has called an emergency meeting of the Arab League

Gaza has been bombed all day today and its ongoing, the images on Al Jazeera show an apocalypse - i know Netenyahu has asked people in Gaza to leave their homes - but i cant see where they are supposed to go - 1 gate is back into Israeli territory and the other in to Egypts and both are heavily fortified and wont let anyone in or out.

This is why the Egyptians don’t want them . The Palestinians refugees try and overthrow the host governments and monarchy when they’re allowed in . Egypt hates Israel , but they hate Palestine too . I’m not at all surprised the Egyptians have told them to **** off

This isn’t even about land for lots of Muslims . This is plainly because many of these Muslims view Jews in the same way hitler did, that they should be wiped off the face of the earth

Was blown away to learn about the ‘knock on the roof’ - that before a major air strike, Israel Defence Force send in a single warning bomb to the target 10 mins before to give anyone who wants to get out, time to get out. Apparently this is standard operating procedure.

My take on this: it’s a totally unprecedented situation with so many hostages unaccounted for. Israel once swapped 1,000 Palestinian prisoners for one Israeli hostage. Current estimates are over 100 hostages but talk is that’s closer to 2-300. When you see people like the Thai Embassy saying they’re missing 11 hostages, that number is going to be huge for Israeli citizens.

So there will be relative restraint whilst the IDF try and get a handle on the scale of that and save as many people as they can. After that, I’m not sure Gaza will exist in its current form. The very, very least they will do is a full military occupation and wiping out anything and anyone remotely connected to Hamas.

It’s Israel’s 9/11.

Surely Putin is stoking things somehow?
I have no idea if you are serious, but it isn’t a big stretch as some might think imho. Hamas backed by Iran, backed by Russia, Israel supported by the West.

Cracks appearing in the West and USA over funding and weaponising Ukraine. More conflict elsewhere to cause mayhem and USA will be sending Navy and military personnel to the region, stretches military resources elsewhere temporarily, cause more ordinary people to seek refuge in Europe, some of which may even be a cover for some state activist cells rather than refugees, the more the Middle East and Africa is destabilised, the more refugees will seek better lives elsewhere, the more pressure on Europe and its economies the more hope of starting to destabilise and fracture alliances from within both economically and politically.

I was being totally serious! Was quite surprised when someone laughed, but I'll take any positive emoji reactions I can get.....

There are no good guys here.

Humans beings. We are a disgusting race. We fight over land, resources, religion.
When we can't fight about those things we fight and abuse people who support a different football team to us.
Vlad.....I agree....my soul is feeling flat today.
For my children's sake i fear we are going to hell in a handcart

Speaking as an atheist of 20 years plus I have to say that religious war and hatred makes me despair.

The fact that people will commit atrocities in the name of an all loving God makes me think ww deserve to he wiped out again....

And build up from.micro organisms ...

Sadly Sunderland fans have already began this journey ahead of schedule.

I know it's a joke but I find it strange that in this context you would seek to have a dig at our neighbours being somehow less human than we are.

I'm just watching the BBC news on catch-up.

Its horrible, but their bias for the apartheid Israeli state is incredible and are labelling the Palestinians terrorists in all this.

They reckon its a conflict going back 100 years, No it isn't. It started in 1947 when the British broke their promise to Palestine.
Goes back to the arbitrary borders which took no notice of who lived where:

The western powers and media are in the pockets of the Israelis. Just look at the hounding out of pacifist Jeremy Corban. I'm sure a lot of people actually think he's a terrorist.

Anyone who is sympathetic to the Israeli cause should listen to the great Jewish thinker Noel Chomsky's take on it

No one thinks Corbyn is a terrorist. What a lot of people think is that he is completely unsuited to being a leader of a mainstream party and unelectable. If Starmer hadn't of got rid of him, his comments alone this week would have been a rallying cry for Tories and damaged Labour significantly.

What do you think Chomsky's take on it is? I'm not trying to be rude but given you don't appear to know his name I'm not sure what level of understanding you have around his veiws.

What would you propose we do about all these Israeli's who reportedly have the Western governments and media in their "pockets?"

Quite dangerous rhetoric you are posting here in my opinion.

I do not get this.

Obviously, attacking civilians is a crime against humanity. This is barbaric.

The thing is that the Israeli government was subject to to mass protests from Israelis and the chances are a more left leaning government would have ended up in power instead of the hard right one they have now.
This attack will give this Israeli government everything they need, including global international support, to wipe out any perceived risk and any revenge they see fit to inflict. This will take the Palestinian cause back decades.
I just dont get it. what were Hamas hoping to achieve other than mindless slaughter of innocents? Did they want a solution or just war? Surely fellow Arabs will condemn what Hamas has done and they will lose a lot of their own support. Is it just that hardliners on both sides dont want a compromise of the two state solution? Is Iran behind all of this? Is this Russia creating a diversion tactic?
I really feel for ordinary Palestinians and Israelis. This is a war none of them wanted and is being waged by terrorists in their name.

That’s the stance that the racists, and gammon, were taking during the Black Lives Matter campaign. Stating All Lives Matter and therefore deflecting away from the matter at hand.

He wasn’t asked to condemn all attacks, he was asked to condemn these specific attacks.
Very true. His stubbornness over issues like this, and his refusal to commit to a Brexit stance are what finished him off as leader. Just say what you really think mate! Its true that the press were incredibly hard on him but that's part and parcel of the gig unfortunately.

No point looking backwards now but ultimately Brexit wouldn't have happened if there was a coordinated Remain message and campaign from Labour.

I don't think the "politics of condemnation" as some would call it have ever helped make any situation better. It's a trap.

What a shame Alan Johnson, who was put in charge of the Labour Remain campaign, phoned it in eh? Between that and the PLP revolt starting the day after the referendum results were announced its clear Labours centrist MPs saw brexit as a price worth paying to undermine the leadership at the time.

Didn't they just have elections last year and become more right wing? Whats the basis for thinking a left leaning government would have ended up in power? Are you meaning just a regression to the mean average sort of thing?
