Isaiah Jones - opens up about his mental heath

Also a hard position to be consistent playing as a winger. Probably attracts as much criticism as anywhere else on the field and more than most. Adomah was one of the best wide players we've had in a decade and he still got regular criticism.

Downing too.

And if you look up the road Jack Clarke and and Patrick Roberts were both written off earlier in their careers despite being initially highly rated. Both seen as very good championship wingers now.

He burst onto the scene and he was CLASS a drop in form and the know it alls are saying he's finished he was never that good. non league etc etc etc

He'll be back and better for the experience.
Exactly. He was easily our best player when he burst onto the scene. I'm confident he will be back to his best next season. Good luck to Isaiah glad he's came through the bad times. I watched the podcast and it was nice to hear him say how he loves the Boro fans.

Is it only disgraceful when its certain players who get the stick? People like Rudy Gestedes, Britt Assomobalongas mental healths don't count as they were widely and regularly hammered by a whole fanbase. Never remember anyone sticking up for them.

Its awful what Jones has gone through and hopefully he gets the help he needs but theres a fine line here and you cant expect football fans not to be critical.

Im not Jones's biggest fan and certainly criticised his crossing and finishing in the past even at his best. To be honest i haven't seen anything that was disgraceful more people wanting more from him which is understandable.
The problem on this forum comes when some posters (not many, but they exist) start to campaign against a player. They criticise match after match, even when it is not fair, they know what they are doing.

Most posters will come on here to let off steam after a bad result and name a player or two but then it’s all forgotten with the next good result and the players are heroes again. That’s natural and normal as a passionate fan in my opinion.

The ones to watch are the ones who are trying to build supporters unrest against players they don’t want in the team.

Maddo stayed faithful to him…

while not everyone was as nasty as some of the idiots, most thought he’d reached his plateau, I guess I had too…

but maddo kept saying he hasn’t become a bad player over night and often betrayed callers who criticised him…

His desire was constantly questioned and he was called lazy on a number of occasions. Predictions that he would be in league two or the Scottish championship before long. A quick search on here and you would find plenty of posts which went far beyond 'wanting more from him'.
Making that prediction based on on field knowledge performances doesn’t constitute “disgraceful”. It’s fair comment, and until he shows that he can perform consistently it’s still fair comment.

He’s clearly had a really really tough time, and, yes, the club and team need to support him. Hopefully he can get his head right and some peace and happiness in his life because loss is debilitating. I for one never questioned his effort, I did question his performances, I’ll be the first to admit im wrong if he proves me wrong and I’ll be happy to do so, because he has some raw physical ability that’s difficult to teach.

I think crossing is as difficult a skills as there is in the game: just see how many poor crosses there are. It's not because there are lots of rubbish wingers, it's because it's difficult. Even if you're good at it , you're still dependent on a team mate making the appropriate run, or you still look daft.
Certainly a harder skill than dribbling, which makes fans swoon.

I read the article and really felt for him.
Then found myself getting genuinely excited.
It takes real determination to come back from something like that.
He obviously has it in bucketloads
That fight and will power has got to come out on the pitch next season.
I will be cheering on the boro. Especially him.

Just watched it in full. It is a really interesting story and heartbreaking about his state of mind last year. Especially when you think of the abuse he got. Hope it is all behind him now!

Can we stop this, a lie is still a lie however much it is repeated......he didn't get 'abuse', his performances were rightly called crap, if you listen to Isiah's full interview, he knows he didn't play consistently well.

Love that he has come out said this. Showing venerability like that takes a lot of courage and can only help others going through the same thing. Hopefully he bounces back this season. Onya Jonesy!

Sounds like diversion tactics to me mate. He did cop a lot of abuse on here from ignorant fans who were not even prepared to wait and see if there was anything behind the drop in form. No, it was he's crap, he's found his level, he's not good enough, should go back to non-league etc etc etc.
You may not have found the abuse disgraceful, but what it did display is just how ignorant and crass so many of our so called supporters are (showing absolutely no support for one of our young players).
I won't slag a player off as if he's picked for MY team I will support him all the way, until he's no longer playing for My team.
It gets down to that fundamental argument you always hear from those type of fans - 'I pays me money so I'm entitled to say what I like''.
Yes you can, but when it comes back like this to bite them on the derriere it just shows how much of an ill-informed, chod, they are, who's more interested in having a go to show their supposed superior footballing knowledge than supporting the team.
Can you just imagine this?
You're a worker and every time you go to work you get disgruntled customers slagging off your performance, your ability, your very existence in the company, because they (who have absolutely know understanding of the job you do and could never do it themselves) deem your efforts not good enough. Somehow I think that would have an effect on you too.
Get behind the team, the whole team, all the time, and we might just have the success we all crave.
