Isaiah Jones - opens up about his mental heath

Sounds like diversion tactics to me mate. He did cop a lot of abuse on here from ignorant fans who were not even prepared to wait and see if there was anything behind the drop in form. No, it was he's crap, he's found his level, he's not good enough, should go back to non-league etc etc etc.
You may not have found the abuse disgraceful, but what it did display is just how ignorant and crass so many of our so called supporters are (showing absolutely no support for one of our young players).
I won't slag a player off as if he's picked for MY team I will support him all the way, until he's no longer playing for My team.
It gets down to that fundamental argument you always hear from those type of fans - 'I pays me money so I'm entitled to say what I like''.
Yes you can, but when it comes back like this to bite them on the derriere it just shows how much of an ill-informed, chod, they are, who's more interested in having a go to show their supposed superior footballing knowledge than supporting the team.
Can you just imagine this?
You're a worker and every time you go to work you get disgruntled customers slagging off your performance, your ability, your very existence in the company, because they (who have absolutely know understanding of the job you do and could never do it themselves) deem your efforts not good enough. Somehow I think that would have an effect on you too.
Get behind the team, the whole team, all the time, and we might just have the success we all crave.

absolute crock of **** tbh

This is an opinion on a footballer who is in an entertainment business. whether you agree or not with other fans these comments are NOT abuse. Every footballer has their detractors, their super fans and somewhere in between.

His form dipped in the last 3 months of his first season, if it was personal issues that is very sad situation and feel for the lad and im sure we all hope he can improve and be happy again. I dont think its anything personal its simply criticism of his form. He gets alot more backing when he plays than most players with his own song that is constantly sang.

Mcgree, Lenihan, Steffan, Fry, Smith have all had similair critism throughout their boro careers on here and from the stands and not been backed as well as Jones. Im sure after this news the fans will rally around Jones and continue to sing his name.

your very existence in the company
This is a stretch, you make it sound sadistic. its football. Players are sold and moved on constantly, some people are happy with the sales some aren't.

who have absolutely know understanding of the job you do and could never do it themselves
Yes im sure many fans couldnt do the job thats why he gets paid the mega bucks but no understanding, come on. Plenty of fans have a good understanding of the game but hey thats irrelevant anyway whether you have a clue or not fans are entitled to their opinion. If people cant talk about things they have no understanding of it would be a very quiet world. There would be radio silence on here.

There’s a huge difference between booing a player on the pitch and say having a message board discussion about a player having a bad performance. The cause of the performance wouldn’t have been discussed.

Let’s not pretend that he will absolutely be a championship player if he gets beyond those mental health problems. He still has a lot to learn and it isn’t a given that he will perform as a top championship player if he’s found his happy place again.

I suppose it also depends on your definition of abuse. Criticising a player's performance isn't really abuse in my opinion, unless it crosses the line into personal insults.

And how often do fans wait and see for a few months before criticising a player for below par performances? That would be a bit weird and a bit patronising anyway.

"Player x is having a terrible game"
"Yes, but he might have problems at home or mental health issues"
"Fair point. Best not say anything just in case"

5 games later.
"Player x has been poor for a while now."
"Yes but nothing has been announced about his personal life yet so we don't know why."
"Oh yes. Good luck to him. I'm sure he is doing his best under the circumstances."

It is all about balance surely.
On the whole I think this board self balances.
We all care passionately about our club, our team. It is natural to be critical when performances disappoint.
There are thankfully always members to keep people honest, keep people fair, to challenge when criticism becomes excessive.

Isaiah has had some criticism, some perhaps a little harsh; but he has also always had huge support in the stadium and by and large on this board/social media.
His performances did drop, it was understandable that would attract some criticism, but the club and fan base have treated him well. The personal disclosure adds real texture and perspective.
I'm sure we all hope he regains and surpasses his form of his breakthrough season. I certainly do.

I think a lot of supporters forget how young some of these players are, a lot of us have jobs with a degree of pressure but, certainly nobody boos me when I have a bad day or put in a sub par shift. I’ve seen players get a lot of stick on this board, it’s okay to criticise but some of it crosses the line of constructive criticism.
This is the only social media I use and at times I consider jacking it in but there are some good people on here.
As a footballer, I think that you having a social media profile is almost a requirement now, so it’s probably not easy to avoid the vile comments people make.
