Is our club a Phoenix club?

Bit harsh. Its a bit liverpool. Would have the three ships, simple lion and MFC or what we had with 1876. Will be a while before we change it. Crazy when you think we’ve had that badge for like 13 years
The 1986-2008 era with that old badge was, in hindsight, a truly wonderful period for the club. The new badge has brought us very few really good times. Not even a particularly good cup run (despite a couple of good away performances at PL opposition under AK).

True. But weve still got a club to support and we very nearly didnt. I always kinda think that three points thing had a bit to do with us not giving in and going out of existence like the peasants they think we are.

By todays rules maybe but back then i dont think so. Wolves had done a similar thing i think and we were being made an example of. The Moskowitz, Gibson, Henderson, consortium badically bought a dead company and paid off its debts to keep the club alive. Survived liquidation is always whats used. We weren’t liquidated or there would be no club as we know it. Henderson was chairman so who knows about the badge
Blackplay Ltd. was the name if the dead company. Middlesbrough Football & Athletic Company (1986) Ltd became the new name. (Though I think I recall the name Sporting Middlesbrough might have been mentioned somewhere...might have dreamt it 😜)

Thats it. It was administration we were in really. They put the name of the new company on the badge. Regardless of whether or not ir would been allowed today, the club survived as it started the 86 season with one company as its owner, and ended it owned by Gibson, Henderson, Moskowitz but retained its original league registration. Therefore same club with no disruption in continuity. It wasnt even a case of buying or transferring golden shares, they paid off all the debts and had to put up the league registration fee which was a new thing that year.

You are right. The football club called Middlesbrough FC can be thought of as an entity distinct from whoever owns it. Whether the owner is a Private Ltd company, a Fan collective or a publicly listed multi-national. The football club has continued uninterrupted...

Because the new company was proud of saving the club it put 1986 on the badge as if the club was born again but there was no requirement to do that, and so at a later date they changed their mind and the badge returned to having the original date

Kenny Junior lives literally round the corner from me. My son talks to him all the time.
I bet Kenny finds that a bit intimidating. A bit like Hannibal Lector talking to Migs. I think you should tell your son to give him a break once in a while.
