IS COVID OVER

He's had a shocker hasn't he?

🤣

The vaccines work against all variants.
The AZ vaccine appears to work in a Petri dish in Oxford according to Hancock this morning. I haven't seen or heard of any data for the other vaccines.

That's true bear one way or the other. I am not sure why this variant would behave differently to others in regard to vaccinations. No real evidence of that either. If, and its a big if, this particular variant is resistant to the vaccines then amend the current map for lockdown.

If we stall every decision for every mutation we are stuck in this cycle until the entire planet is vaccinated. Even then the virus can still transmit and mutate. Hell every time it replicates it can mutate it doesn't even need to be transmitted.

At what point will the public be allowed to assess its own level of risk?

Not sure there is proof but they're is evidence given that it works against all previous variants.
Yeah. I'm pleased of this. It would be nice to have proof. Some people seem to assert facts which suit their way of thinking before they even become facts. Shame

AZ had 10% efficacy against the South African variant. There were no serious cases in the study, but the median age was only 30, so we're not sure how well it would work in the general population. Fortunately the variant isn't as transmissible as the Kent variant and, so, it would be easier to "socially distance" it away.

We're similar studies done for Pfizer bear? Also given the median age, that digests some were older and possibly vulnerable but still no serious cases. This begs the question what efficacy were they testing, efficacy at stopping infection, efficacy of being able to refinfect or efficacy against death and serious illness? Didn't read the link as my battery is running low.

Study says "10.4% efficacy against mild-to-moderate infections" which is why I said earlier we need to move away from reporting infections we need to look at hospitalisations and deaths. It is rather alarming when quoted without the qualification.

Thanks mutley.

The study provides qualification.

No. I think they were hoping for a cheap vaccine to use in South Africa. There was a general study carried out in Israel that subjectively said it wasn't as effective, but I don't think the data is good enough to conclude more than that as it wasn't a major strain under investigation.

The UK has "increasing confidence" that Covid-19 vaccines work against the Indian variant of the virus, the health secretary has said.

Scientists believe that the variant is more transmissible and cases of it nearly tripled to 1,313 in the past week in England.

But Matt Hancock said early lab data showed vaccines remained effective.

He said the majority of those in hospital in Bolton - a hotspot for the Indian variant - were unvaccinated.

The health secretary said that the variant, known as B.1.617.2, was "relatively widespread in small numbers" in most of the country.

again "The health secretary has said"

@Randy I think those twitter conspiracy theory accounts you keep reposting provide more reliable evidence!
