In what way are they overhyped?
Both in their early 60s now.
They've been making music for the best part of 45 years and don't need any hype, not that I've ever seen any evidence of hype from the UK music press.
New album and tour every four years or so.
Loved in Germany, Italy, France and Central Europe. Not so much in the UK.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
If there was ever a band deserving of some sort of achievement award for services to the music industry it'd be Depeche Mode.

Both in their early 60s now.

Never really had the recognition they deserve in the UK imho, perhaps because the British music press like to pigeon hole bands and DM have evolved producing great albums and singles that aren’t out of place across five decades.

They do have a large devoted following in the UK and recent tours have sold out quickly even at Twickenham
