Irons in the fire

After the initial flurry of transfers the week before last, things have been a bit slower these last seven days. That is, at least at surface level.

Having looked under the covers of the transfer masterplan, I have something of of an insight into where things are headed right now.

I can say with a good degree of certainty that Chuba will be staying at the club nex season provided that no club meets our asking price and he is happy to stay. Matt Clarke's ongoing injury means he won't start games until he's fit again. He's desperate to play again but there's little chance of that until he can train regularly.

The new lads have all bedded in quite well and the word is Silvera has nailed down his spot on the left-hand side, although it looks like he will start either on the right or most likely in the middle. And if you are a fan of Marcus Forss, there's some good news for you there: Carrick will start him in a central striking position against Millwall if we don't sign any other players in the meantime who are subsequently given the nod. But there's more: we're looking at another striker in addition, already a household name of the future, potentially, and whose biggest asset is goals. He doesn't just score headers; he'll get... footers, as well.

The biggest question - perhaps the only one I haven't answered - is 'where is Ryan Giles in all of this'? That's not for me to say right now, but the chances are that he will be back in a red shirt in time for August. It's just sorting out the fine details at this point, such as whether a fee can be agreed and his wages.

Great write up, you must have a degree in Vagueology 🤣👍

Love the username 🙂

What a load of waffle. You would make a good politician as you can talk and talk without saying anything meaningful.

To summarize all you have said is
Chuba is staying unless he isn't.
Matt Clarke is injured (yes we know that) and won't play again until he's fit - wow what a surprise
Marcus Forss will play as a central striker unless someone else does
Silvera is great on the left but may play on the right or in the middle
We will be signing a player (Giles) if we can agree a fee and personal terms - gosh is that how it works?

Haverton Hill turns up very occasionally at this time of year with transfer ‘information’, I’ve not fact checked his accuracy over the many years he has posted but I suspect he is very well connected and properly plugged in these days and may be worth listening to.

I have it on good authority that Haverton good authority speaks with average authority on these matters.

I can also exclusively add that Crooks is staying and that Dieng has nailed down his spot at right back but expect him to start in goal first game of the season.

(Taps nose etc).

Have we actually been linked with Thomas Cannon, seen his name mentioned a few times. But never seen or noticed any genuine links.

One more update: Mowatt, this time. I had a round of golf (just on the Xbox) with a lad I know who used to live just a stone's throw from the Hawthorns. Quite possible that Al will be returning next season. Will be done before the end of the window if it happens and should be a permanent move if all parties prefer that option.
