Indian restaurants in Teesside..?

Had some great meals here but I've also had some very weird experiences where the wait staff on 3 separate visits asked us to give them a cash tip while the manager isn't looking as he takes it off them. A trip advisor review from 2 years ago said the same thing so seems like a long running thing, and I doubt someone stays in the job 2 years saying stuff like that about their boss, shame as the food is nice but that is off putting.
Weird that - never happened to me but clearly has been an issue before.

Yeah we've had instances where it hasn't happened but it seemed to just come up randomly, friend said it happened to them as well. Like I say I doubt you'd manage to stay in the job 2 years saying that so don't know if it's a trick to try and get better tips by playing sympathy card but it's pretty awkward. Food is really good though.

Believe it's the same owner that used to do jewel in the crown in Forbes building which we always went to when I was a kid

Its the same guy - I think JITC was the first proper Indian restaurant I went in.

I've never been myself but friends are very much divided on Vadah - some swear its great and others say its dog food warmed up!
I really like vadah, the food/decor etc is very different from traditional Indian, but can't imagine why anyone would say it's like dog food warmed up. presentation is really good, meat always been really tender and have tried multiple things on various courses and never had anything remotely bad so surprised at that unless it's just hyperbole

Some don't trust tripadvisor but 1000x 5* and just 20x 1*, 16x 2* suggests it's almost universally liked

I can't comment as I've not been but I guess we all have friends prone to exaggeration!

Massala is my main one to go to. I have encountered the tipping scenario once.

Jamals was OK. Usually find it hard to get in nowadays (full or booked out) and heard the service went iffy when he tried to do it all himself. Has it changed?

Vadah is also (was) very good. I haven't been since lockdown ended.

Done Jolsha, Akbars, Jadoo and have no complaints with them.

Not tried the one aver the road from Dormans Museum yet.

I can also vouch for jolsha in Norton.

It was named in the top in the uk a few years ago.

Like call centre awards, those top curry style awards are all down to paying a PR firm to submit your entry. it's not like every curry house entered and they were judged to be the best

example here is a firm offering to "guide" you through the process

Btw went past it today, Akbar Dynasty on road to Darlo is now called Tulip

I’ve never been back to Jamals after he admitted that he part cooked his meat and finished off when people ordered
Makes no sense. Jamals is the don tho

Just like The Divine Greek in Thornaby is the best in the area for a Parmo (by a mile)

and I don’t even want to share the best Chinese takeaway.. but I will because I’m kind. It’s Sunningdale Chop Suey House in Eaglescliffe.
