India v England - 3rd Test

Definitely, the whole setup us now built on vibes and good feelings. It would be totally contradictory to the Baz ethos to refuse them a replacement in the circumstances.

In cricket, if a player from one team cannot play due to a family bereavement or any other personal reason, the team is usually allowed to make a substitution for that player. The specific rules and procedures regarding substitutions for personal reasons can vary depending on the competition's regulations.

Most cricket governing bodies have provisions in place to allow teams to make substitutions in cases of genuine personal emergencies, such as a family bereavement. The team typically needs to inform the match officials and the opposition team about the situation and seek approval for the substitution.

The substitute player must be eligible according to the rules of the competition, and they may be allowed to perform all or some of the duties of the absent player, depending on the format of the game and the competition's regulations. The decision to allow a substitute and the specific rules regarding substitutions for personal reasons are usually outlined in the playing conditions or regulations of the tournament or series being played.

Sounds like they should be allowed to bring Axar Patel in. It’s the right thing to do.

We don’t want to go on to win the test, but with the caveat of it being against 10 men for half of it.

It is saying on the BBC that If he does not return to the Test, India will not be allowed to replace his batting or bowling, but will be permitted a substitute fielder.

Having watched the highlights tonight Foakes catch for the 9th wicket shows why it's the correct decision to play a specialist keeper in India.

It’s all imploding this morning.

Root out to a reverse scoop off Bumrah after looking in complete control.

Bairstow out for a duck.

Duckett out to a rank long hop.

260-5 with the pitch starting to turn a bit more. 185 behind and things looking ominous now.

Going to need a Stokes special to get us anywhere near 445.

The difference between the teams is india play conventional test cricket and england just play bazball regardless

Thrown the game away, the pitch is good enough to just knock it around for 3-4 an over , why couldnt they have just done that

We needed a platform from Root and Bairstow.

Root played another stupid shot and Bairstow was out to a very good ball.

It was doable but will very soon be all out.

You can’t have it both ways though can you?

You can’t give a side plaudits for attacking cricket but then when it goes wrong, say they should change style.

It’s frustrating in these situations but the debate will rage on until a time Stokes / Baz move on.

The worst dismissal of the lot is Roots. We were in total control at that stage. I don’t have a problem with that shot generally, but it was wreckless given the match situation and India being under the cosh. Especially since he had been short of runs.

Barring Duckett, too many starts and not enough making big scores.

Bairstow has never rediscovered any of his 2021 form since returned from Injury. Barring one 99* latest summer he averages around 22 in his other innings in the last 14 months. That’s not good enough for a Test match number 5. He should be replaced but you know he won’t be.

A miracle needed now

Root is doing this more and more often, he didn’t used to be known for this.

Root needs to mirror the role he plays in the ODI side. Just bat in his own style and let others bat around him. His natural scoring rate has always been high anyway.

He used to bat around 70-80 per 100 balls by just playing his game which is a combination of boundaries and accumulation. His judgement seems to be certainly clouded at the moment, which probably comes from a loss of form and confidence.

It was a pretty abysmal batting performance by England on a benign pitch. Alastair Cook went on record last night and said England would bat all day today. England do not have the same mental attitude as Cook did in his time.

It is a completely different approach with the current regime.

There are pros and cons but it is certainly entertaining and probably increases public interest.

I know it’s been said a thousand times but they need to find the middle ground, 207-2 yesterday was phenomenal but why try and go back to the well again. India are a bowler down (and not just any bowler one of the best spinner bowlers ever), surely the game plan just needed to be bat sensibly till lunch (you could even excuse Duckett from it) and then reassess.

Also think of the bowlers ffs, Anderson is over 40 and we’re asking him to go out and bowl again less than a day later.

As somebody has put on the BBC today Bazball as a concept is fine but the batters still need to take personal responsibility for how they play within it.

The Telegraph has called Roots scoop shot today the most stupid shot in the history of cricket, which must means he’s knocked himself off the top as his scoop against the Aussies must have been number 1 before🙈
