Depends what sort of trade deal you want……
If you want a good one for both parties, then it’s a drawn out negotiation….

If one side is prepared to bend over, lube up and let their country get shafted in order to get a deal, ANY deal, purely because they want to be able to turn around and say ‘Looka! Looka! I done a deal people! Aren’t I a clever lad?! How’d ya love me now, huh? They said it couldn’t be done so quickly but here I am, getting deals! Vote for me purleeeeeze!’ ………..then yeah, I’d imagine complex deals can get done quite quickly.

I have worked with Indian IT contractors several times and they vary from inept to excellent.

I have watched one contractor trying to make changes on a server and it was plain they didn't have a clue what to do. It was one of the reasons I left as I had had my admin rights removed and given to the Indian support team who were utterly useless (but cheap) this was a US company called CSC.

That was my point above. Not just the body shops bringing in H1B employees, but also Microsoft and the bigger agencies. Almost universally, the ones I came across were inept. I had the misfortune of having to interview a number who were so far out of their depth for what we wanted, it was embarrassing.

It's astonishing to think that bigots didn't vote for brexit. It's one of the cornerstones of the process. Anti immigration and hatred of foreigners powered brexit and with things like the Rwanda policy, bigotry is still considered a vote winner today. You might be trying to assuage a guilt for voting brexit by distancing yourself from the bigots but sadly the bigots are brexitists. Regardless of whether your reasons for voting it were more altruistic

Wow, you have no self awareness of how you speak to others. How dare you accuse me in that offensive way, trying to assauge guilt ffs thats pathetic. I suggest you review and consider your bigoted view of how you see brexit voters, alongside the hypocisy of being a remainer who voted for the biggest bigot in the country to become Prime Minister, the man who promised to get brexit done. You have no self awareness when engaged on this subject and for that reason, I’m out !!!

Agreed it's sad the coluka had to stoop so low as to call me pathetic and a hypocrite but I'm kind of used to it now. All brexit voters know they can't defend it anymore so either lower themselves to either lies, deflection or insults. Brexit really has lowered standards in this country in so many ways.

We might need skilled labour but why would we need to give visas to Indians (or anyone else) to do high-level IT that could essentially be done from anywhere?

If they move here they'll be subject to the same cost-of-living crisis as the rest of us and will need higher wages as a result.

Surely it would be better to let them work from India.

This doesn't make a lot of sense.
