If only this possibility/likelihood had been discussed and pointed out to brexiteers who thought voting leave would stop ‘foreigners coming here and taking our jobs’ ….

What’s that you say? People did discuss it and point it out and highlight it to many brexiteers but they ignored it because because because…?!?!?!?!?!?!

Is there really an IT shortage of hundreds of thousands of in this country. Have to say I am not keen on any trade deal with India whilst they align with Putin. This comes a week after Boris met the Ukrainian PM. I would be stopping the aid we send as well.

“We hear that Johnson tells journos on a plane” Absolute Codswallop.
Apart from the fact its true? There was a lot of talk about relaxing visas and getting more Indian workers in. It's quite hilarious isn't it? The bigots who voted for brexit are going to get more brown people in the country. They won't like that!

India trade deal will mean accepting increased migration to UK, PM indicates

Hopes of getting the deal done this year have also been dashed, with Downing Street saying they "don't want to sacrifice quality for speed".

Boris Johnson has indicated that a post-Brexit trade deal with India will include accepting Delhi’s demands for an increase in migration to the UK.

The Prime Minister said he was hopeful that a free trade agreement (FTA) can be struck by the end of the year, as he headed to India for talks with his counterpart Narendra Modi.

Mr Johnson vowed to press for a reduction of fossil fuels from Vladimir Putin’s Russia, amid concerns Mr Modi has not been critical enough of the invasion of Ukraine.

The two-day trip was coming amid the fallout from Mr Johnson being fined for breaching coronavirus laws with a gathering for his 56th birthday in 2020.

While he is out of the country, MPs will vote on Thursday on whether to open a Commons investigation into whether he lied to Parliament.

“Sacrifice quality for speed”

Downing Street had not expressed confidence that a trade deal with India would be brokered this year, saying “we don’t want to sacrifice quality for speed”.

But, in an interview with journalists flying with him to Gujarat, Mr Johnson said: “We’re aiming to get an FTA by the end of the year.

Since 2000 there has been a constant influx of Indian IT workers to the UK. Approx 25,000 p.a., so where is the shortage of labour, and what barrier is the government actually removing?

Making it easier to get a visa. Possibly THE barrier to working in another country

I feel I should just point out bigotry is not something that relates to all brexit voters as some might take from your post even though i am sure you wont have meant that, but some will undoubtedly have been bigots who voted brexit. I am sure there are bigoted remainers that exist too. Without wishing to open up old wounds, for many, Brexit was about independent World trade not just European contracted trades agreements and bigotry and racism was never in their minds.

I am sure some racist remainers and brexiteers will not like this trade agreement. We desperately need skilled trades people across all industries and the Indians I have met have always been polite, courteous, hard working and honest and (subject to seeing whats in it) hope it will be a positive and welcome step.

A free trade agreement before the end of the year??
Doesn’t he know they take many many years to complete? 😜

Apologies: yes not all brexitists are bigots. However all bigots are brexitists and its one of the cornerstones of the movement

A lot of the Indians I came across in the States had been brought in on H1B visas as cheap labour and really weren't competent. H1B visas are for skilled labour where there is not a US citizen available to do the job and the salary has to match that which would be paid to a US citizen. Clamping down on its misuse is the one decent thing Trump did as president.

That is not true. All bigots are not brexitists.

Bigotry: obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction; in particular, prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

There will undoubtedly be people who voted remain that are bigots in some way shape or form.

I would doubt that. Given bigotry was weaponsied (and still is) by the brexitists, it stands to reason that the movement would appeal to bigots. Remain is simply the opposite of a bigoted ideal. Brexit has legitimised bigotry and racism in this country

That may be the case, I can only state my experiences, which are limited I grant you. We definitely need skilled labour and we should try to attract it from all over the world where we can. How you verify the skills are adequate is a good point and hope and expect Visa’s are awarded appropriately.

Bigotry was alive and well long before Brexit and applies to many other issues, to doubt there will be bigots who may have voted remain is astonishing in my eyes. I’ll leave it there though as I don’t want the thread derailing.
