Imperial Weights and Measures - Another fantastic Brexit Bonus!

I'm over 50 and would hate having to go back to imperial measurements. Christ knows how it'd affect the younger generations.
This is the big problem isn't it? I can understand old stuck in their ways people like @Erimus74 not to understand metric but (with the exception of miles and pints) everyone under 40 has only been brought up with metric. We are essentially going to ask them to regress to an ancient system. Putting them at yet another disadvantage (along with already removing some of their FoM). We know are going to try and make them use a weights and measures system only in use in 3 other countries. The rest of the world uses metric and it makes is more poor and isolated and at yet another disadvantage on the world stage.

If I am weighing myself it would be in imperial, but when I am cooking I use the metric system.

The metric system is easier to use and needs to be kept. Except for mileage.

I wonder how many on here use kilometres when filling in their mileage sheets. 😜
It is curious how mileage has stuck isn't it? I'm fine with that, only use that whilst driving (KM for runs and Cycles) and thats the least of my problems when driving in Europe. The steering wheel being the main one. Metric weights and measures though, immensely useful. I know my height in ancient measures but genuinely don't know my weight. It's 85 Kg and that's fine by me.

Agree, I am 1.7m tall or 5’ 6 in old money. I haven’t a clue what my weight is in metric (13, 7).

When driving abroad, I have no issues using the metric system, but regularly find myself converting kilometres to miles to give me a better idea how long we have to go.

Regarding pints, that doesn’t bother me ordering drinks in CL’s.

I don't care if they want to make it legal to show weights in the old imperial measurements again, it likely won't affect me at all in all honesty - very few if any retailers will do away with the metric measurements. However I do care that they're spending time on useless shoyte like this when there's other stuff going on that could use some attention.

It's obvious that this is just something for the Brexiters to puff their chests up about.

The cynical side of me thinks it may be a way to muddy the water and attempt to hide price rises as the reality of the last few years kicks in

Depends what school you went to. I'm 36 and got taught both at school.

I like usin KM abroad because when your brain is wired to calculating driving distances in miles it seems like you're getting everywhere quicker. When you see, say "Paris 20" my brain thinks that's 20 miles. So is pleasantly surprised when we only travel 20KM

Bring back the cane,
the birch, the noose.
Bring back the days
of classroom abuse.

Bring back TV shows
with leery old men
who pawed at young women
again and again.

Bring back British pounds,
shillings and pence,
and imperial measures
that never made sense.

Bring back Alf Garnett
and Mind Your Language,
black up your actor,
in lieu of turban, a bandage.

Take dirty cultural laundry
and smear it on the floor,
then wonder why no one
wants to know us anymore.

So far as I can understand the article - it is just referring to the idiotic Metric Martyrs episode.
If you do not want to buy a pound of tomatoes - there will be more than ample places to buy a killowatt of them from a large superstore. Kerfuffle over nothing.

Going hand in hand with yesterday's announcement, legally forcing broadcasters to make their programmes 'British-themed' (whatever that means) it's a bit more than that.

When my work mate started to go running, the following morning at work, he'll tell say to me, I done 7 kilometers last night, my reply was always, in english please, he then converts its to miles for me :)
It's a nightmare when a fellow cyclist tells me they did 40km in x time - I really struggle too know if that's good or bad :ROFLMAO:

We use both measurements at work as some recipes we use are in pounds and ounces and the others in grams and kilos.

Just let people use what they want to use.

I totally agree Randy - we happily use the system side by side now (with lots of googling 'how many miles is 30km' etc) so there is no need to change how we operate.

What I take exception to is this being branded a 'benefit of Brexit' and how we can rejoice because we have a crown sign on our pint glasses. It just shows how stupid this Government think the public are.

It is unnecessary red tape - something that Brexit was meant to reduce.

Definitely a lot of people having a rant without actually reading the story 😁

Anyone measuring distances in kilometres is either a cyclists or a walker, and are using this distance on a map or a mapping device.

If travelling by car, no one would say it is 404 kilometres to London or we have 202 kilometres to go. Distance is always in miles.

Edit: And a mile is 1760 yards or 8 furlongs.
Not in engineering, we use kilometers
