I'm going to put my football neck on the line

Well this put me in a good mood.

The championship is roughly equally as challenging every year. Doesn't matter who comes down or comes up.

We have some loans to replace, so does every other club.

We have some will he won't he scenarios around loans and Chuba. All the clubs coming down don't have a clue who will be in their squads come the end of August.

Dear me.

Very difficult to predict at this stage. There's no doubt the loanees are going to be hard to replace. Hopefully re-sign 2 or 3 of them and find a couple more diamonds.

I agree that Chuba will likely depart. With a season left on his contract and the money that will likely be offered, it's going to be very difficult for the club (and Chuba) to gamble on promotion next season. I do think it's unlikely Chuba repeats last season's form so maybe selling him is the best option for everyone. I think if we were going to keep him, we would have to offer a lengthy contract on decent money to compete with the offers.

The positives are, we've still got a good core of players and it looks likely Carrick will still be here. We have confidence in Carrick's ability as manager and the players who remain seem to have bought into his ethos. He knows what he wants and from the outside it looks as if the relationship between Head Coach and Director of Football is a good one for the first time since we adopted this system. It seemed as if Carrick got the players he wanted in January and they were the right ones. Hopefully they can repeat this in the summer.

I genuinely think Chuba will be here next season.

Especially after hearing his interview on the podcast the other day - I think he is wise enough to know that he has found a club/ management that understands and works for him.

...and footballers never lie in interviews.

If he is, hopefully we extend his contract prior to the season starting. Hate the thought of us getting nothing for him next year if things don't go to plan this season.

It kind of has the feeling of Tav last summer though. To get him to extend his contract, it's probably going to cost us a few quid in increased wages.

If we are in the same position after 16 games when Micheal Carrick took over, then I will agree with you.

Im optimistic we will be in the playoff mix by the end at very least. Our form at home is too good under carrick not to at least be up there pushing. No relegation battles in my thinking

I’m full of hope, but lacking in expectation as things stand, it is kitchen sink time for me, I’m hoping Gibson & Scott give Carrick the tools to do the job.
I agree with your points about squad overhaul and agree with positions we need to fill and what we hope to fill them with. However I hope Gibson & Scott give Carrick some decent players rather than a wrench or a spanner to fix that kitchen sink.

Fcuk it - Gibson should just get us a dishwasher

We fizzled out very weakly at the tail end of the season, after so much promise.

You just have to hope Carrick has learnt from this very untimely slump.

I still think there is a case for a more experienced coach to work with him.

Some good realism coming onto the thread, I like it.

We wait and see and I don't think for one second relegation is a word we will be using to describe form next season.

I just think too many of us on here think we're going to kick on from last season without much change and to me I look at it and see that our form died a death towards the end, we limped into the playoffs and got worse from there.

The overhaul required is massive, I just can't see it happening.

Be careful, some on here don’t take too kindly to realism when talking of recruitment at the Boro 😉 😂

It's all about recuritment but we have to trust Scott to get it right and build a side for Carrick to get top 2. I'm not panicking yet being linked to Ross Barkley today shows we are going to be ambitious and have good funds to send

I love what the Championship throws up unexpectedly every season.
They`l be heartbreak and heartache.
They`l be young players who hit the team like Hadyn last season.
They`l be new players fresh to Boro who have the opportunity to shine.
We`l see loan players blend into the core of the squad.
We`l see Johnny Howson get a year younger.
Michael and his coaching team will weave their magic and take us to the promise land.
Bring it on.
UTMB!

Not impossible to say because I'm saying it. 😂

Edit to add, on top of our home grown woes the teams coming up and down are pretty much all massive clubs.
Everyone thought Burnley would struggle last season and Watford would walk it.

Far too early predict, the fixtures haven't even been released yet. Might be better coming back on 1st Spetember and then giving a prediction.
